I read this book when I was a third grader. I was too little to grasp what on earth it meant then. In fact, it confused me about the world at first. I always fantasized I could live with my beloved parents for good. Because of them, my life is filled with contentment and satisfaction. To me, this is the world I’m familiar with. As I read between the lines, I couldn’t believe how sorrowful the boy named Oliver Twist was. It breaks my fantasy about the definition of family. The more I read, the more grief I feel. When we hug our parents and kiss them goodbye, we can’t realize that fact that children who don’t have parents are eager to do such a simple motion to express their love toward their parents as well. When we complain how boring the lessons are, we never cherish the opportunities of receiving education. That is, we spend too much time complaining about what we have.
Have we ever thought our world is not fair to everyone? In this book, the author describes
Oliver Twist’s miserable encounter so as to reflect on the pure desire of children. Oliver was often teased about his birth, which was sheerly a tragedy. We never know how many children like Oliver exist in this world. The most miserable thing in the world isn’t hunger or having no place to stay, but having no parents by your side. Although we always argue with our parents, they still take care of us without any complaint. After reading Oliver
Twist, I came to realize how fortunate I was. In contrast, Oliver’s birth was the beginning of a tragedy. However, he met a lot of people who were eager to lend him a big hand without delay. The author wrote the gloomy side of the world, but he also wrote the merit of it. Thanks to this book, I know how happy my life is. We shouldn’t look for what we don’t have. Instead, we must treasure what we already have.
