Faith in Action Minutes for 6/14/14
Minutes of May meeting: Approved.
Reports
 Student letters for Survival Sacks: Chris said that Edge did them last year, not a class from
the H.F. school.
 Bulletin for Father’s Day Gifts: Fr. Hao is trying to minimize inserts but gave us room in
the bulletin for an edited-down version.
 Space for Survival Sack packing: There was a mix-up and our request for the Community
Center for the morning of Dec. 6 didn’t make it onto the calendar. Susan is scheduled for
her Christmas show there that evening. Anne helped contact Susan, who was very willing
to let us pack in the morning and work any rehearsals in around us. We are scheduled.
 We were pleased to see that the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner used compostable plates
and forks.
Discussion--Vials of Life: This was a success. We handed out approximately 200 and talked to
many people about their importance in safeguarding our vulnerable loved ones. The Vials we have
remaining will be available at the Voter Reg. Booth at Festival. We want to thank Donna Holt
again for obtaining the Vials from Good Sam.
Discussion: Stephanie Howard (dementia speaker): Her second talk at Holy Family drew about 25
people, more than during her first visit. She was informative and well received. She is willing to
return for a third talk, possibly in the evening, and we think she’ll draw more people.
Discussion—Health Fair: Cancelled, as per Fr. Hao. After consultation with Staff, he feels that it
wouldn’t be well attended, as the diocese and other venues have had such fairs with less than
hoped-for attendance.
Discussion--Senior directory/contact: We think that it could enhance the Lay Pastors, hopefully
drawing more volunteers into that ministry. We approved the form that Rolwin devised.
Distribution could begin with a pulpit announcement and articles in the bulletin, then have forms
available in the office, literature rack, Festival booth, and at movie nights. We’ll offer them to
Eucharistic Ministers to the homebound, too. Target date is sometime in August (not Aug. 17—
conflicts). We need to check to find out Festival kick-off date so as not to conflict with them if we
have forms available after Mass some weekend.
Discussion—Survival Sacks: Articles have been submitted for the bulletin. First collection will be
June 29. Jackie will contact Kimberly, who will be handling all the Youth programs, to see if
she’d be interested in having kids write notes again, possibly collect an item and/or make blankets.
Discussion—Movie Nights: Schedule for July is 8 “Nebraska,” 15 “Away from Her,” 22 “The
Straight Story,” and 29 “Strangers in Good Company.” For August it is 12 “On Golden Pond” and
19 “Driving Miss Daisy.” There will be no movie on Aug. 5 because no room is available.
Theresa will make signs. Jackie will look into a stand for the main sign. Dina and Rolwin will
order movies on NetFlix. We’ll all check our supplies of cups, napkins, etc. and publicize the
movie nights via any email lists we have or any other way we ca think of.
Future Activities: Rolwin will look into the possibility of having grandparents stand to be
recognized on Grandparent Day (will find out who to contact on LAC).
