Did you know that only 1 in 100 pairs of shoes are currently being recycled? Did you know that it takes a large amount of petroleum to create shoes? The District 622 Multiple Needs Classroom at Next Step will be working with the Green Sneakers Organization to collect and donate tennis shoes to give footwear to people in need around the world. This includes disaster areas. This project will run throughout the 2013-2014 school year ending on Earth Day, April 22nd, 2014. Our goal is to collect 1,000 pounds of shoes!! Yes, that is correct 1,000 pounds of shoes. Help us help the Earth by recycling your used shoes. Shoes can be dropped in the labeled box near the cafeteria at Skyview! Skyview Elementary PTO School Hours: 9:15 am—3:45 pm Office Hours: 8:00 am—4:00 pm Stepping Stones Theater Presents: District Policy limits gifts to employees: Under the policy teachers and other school district staff are not allowed to receive as personal property a gift worth more than $5 from a student, parent, individual or organization. Instead, individuals wishing to show appreciation to a teacher or staff member are encouraged to write letters or notes of appreciation. Individuals may also show appreciation through a donation to the school in the teacher’s name. Jacob and his brother build a snowman from the grimy snow of city streets. When they place the kente — a colorful storytelling cloth from Africa — around its shoulders, the snowman magically comes to life, and shows them stories of their ancestry and culture. African drumming and dance provide an authentic backdrop for this Black History Month celebration of family, self, and heritage. January 31st—February 23rd, 2014 Go to www.steppingstonestheatre.com or call 651-225-9265 for tickets and additional details. The policy, which is based on state legislation, refers to gifts that are for personal use only and still allows parents and other individuals to give gifts or items that benefit the classroom or school, such as school supplies. Gifts of that nature are not restricted to the $5 limitation. If you have questions about what a teacher or other staff member may accept as a gift, please call the Skyview office.
