Ending the Silence
Ending the Silence is one of the National Alliance on Mental
Illness's signature programs and is currently taking place
across America in schools. This presentation highlights the
statistics, warning signs, and ways to get help for young adults
exhibiting mental illness symptoms. The parent will share with
the audience statistics of mental illness and suicide within the
United States, warning signs of mental illness, and when youth
should find a trusted adult to get the help they need instead of
turning to dangerous activities like drug and alcohol use, self
mutilation, or suicide. The young adult living in recovery will
share their own story of mental illness, who they found in their
community to get help and show that young adults can live
healthy productive lives while living with mental illness. The
objective of this presentation is to have a better understanding
of what youth are facing as they contemplate suicide and tools
that our community leaders, especially teachers can use in
order to prevent maladaptive coping skills and suicide within
our high school youth. Through studies done by NAMI, this
program has been proven to raise the key facts of suicide and
has been shown to be preventative. This presentation will be

If the student doesn’t believe that it’s more about them than it
is about their test score, they will not reach their full potential
in the classroom and beyond. Social skills are the building
blocks for success in and out of the classroom. Character is a
skill to be taught not a personality flaw to be punished. The
student/teacher relationship has a direct correlation on
academic achievement and daily character education has a
direct effect on that relationship. These are not bad kids, they
have bad habits. Poor social skills are learned behaviors and
that means they can be taught a new way. It is in the teaching;

If the student doesn’t believe that it’s more about them than it
is about their test score, they will not reach their full potential
in the classroom and beyond. Social skills are the building
blocks for success in and out of the classroom. Character is a
skill to be taught not a personality flaw to be punished. The
student/teacher relationship has a direct correlation on
academic achievement and daily character education has a
direct effect on that relationship. These are not bad kids, they
have bad habits. Poor social skills are learned behaviors and
that means they can be taught a new way. It is in the teaching;

Yell. Co. Museum: Education
Through Artifacts
First objective of this presentation is to show teachers in the
area that Yellowstone County has an outstanding facility that is
welcoming to all educators and all grades. We foster an
opportunity to enhance the history and culture of our great
state. YCM is consistently updating and rotating our exhibits
throughout the year, in order to provide a wide range of
education about the Yellowstone River Valley. The second
objective is to present a place where educators can tie
classroom curriculum together with real, physical artifacts to
help bring the students fully understand a topic or concept.
Example: we have a very large Native American exhibit that
encompasses all tribes from Montana. This leads to many
discussions and learning opportunities for all ages and grades
and helps teachers with exposing students to native cultures as
apart of the Indian Education for All Act. Third objective is to
show that we are a FREE museum dedicated to the education
of the history and culture related to the Yellowstone River
Basin. We try to base the content of our tours around the
teachers point of interest is in the classroom at the time they
walk in our doors. Thus providing reinforcement to the content
already learned in the classroom. I will provide a slideshow of

Say It Out Loud
One in five teenagers are living with mental illness, but almost
fifty percent of them are not receiving the medical care they
need. The number one reason for this is the stigma
surrounding mental illness. "Say it Out Loud" is a presentation
that all teachers and parents can do with their own youth
groups. Clementine Lindley will give the presentation as an
adult would to a youth group so that they audience can see
what it would look like to do on their own. The presentation
includes a short video that shares warning signs of mental
illness in teens as well as personal stories from three different
teenagers of what it feels like to live with mental illness. The
presentation will also cover why youth use maladaptive coping
mechanisms like drug and alcohol use, self mutilation, and
suicide, warning signs within youth, and community resources
to connect youth with to get the help they need. The objective
