PRAYER TREE: 255-4600 ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME G reen Thumbs? Some of us are born with green thumbs. These blessed souls can make a garden oasis out of the scantiest soil. It’s as if they know by instinct the right fertilizer for each plant, and have an invisible radar for pests and drought. For those of us whose gardens produce weak and wilting harvests, gardening skills border on the miraculous. We look at an empty flowerbed and see dirt. Gardeners see the same freshly turned soil as riot of color just waiting to happen. T hankfully the Master Gardener has a never failing green thumb. He looks at the soil and knows exactly what we need for a bountiful harvest. On the outside a life may seem just dried soil and weak stalks, but God sees the fruit they could bear. We may wonder why God has asked us to carry fertilizer or water to such a barren field, but He knows what is planted there and what He hopes to reap. This week, stop doubting and start scattering the kingdom seeds God has given you. For His immeasurable power causes the miracle of growth in each and every heart, including yours. Stewardship Thought: Those who practice stewardship recognize God as the origin of life, the giver of freedom, the source of all that they have and all that they are. Vocation Views: The reign of God is being planted now. How is it taking root in you? Trust that you can make a difference by nurturing God’s life in you. (Mark 4:26-34) I n the weeks ahead, I hope you will enjoy learning and singing a new song that Steve Angrisano wrote for our parish called “Living Our Faith.” In it, you will hear phrases that embody Corpus Christi and truly encompasses who we are as the Body of Christ. Our Jubilee theme, “Following Christ, Serving with Love” is evident. In each verse of the song you will hear our mission statement; “As disciples of Jesus, we live our faith through word, sacrament, and service.” CHURCH OF CORPUS CHRISTI EVEREST VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL This week we held our Vacation Bible School here at Corpus Christi. We had an amazing time learning about how much God loves us, and with his help we can do anything. Every year during Vacation Bible School we do something called Operation Kid to Kid. We raise money to help children from a different country and we learn about them and their culture. This year because of the devastating earthquake in Nepal, we decided to raise money for the children there. Many families lost everything. Mt. Everest is in Nepal and this was our Vacation Bible School theme this year. So while we were learning about Everest we thought it would be good to know what took place there. The earthquake in Nepal killed more than 8,000 people and injured more than 23,000. The earthquake also caused an avalanche on Everest that killed at least 19 people, making it the deadliest day on the mountain in history. Close to 1.7 million children have been driven out into the open with no drinking water or shelter. So far, we have raised $506.00 for the children of Nepal. If you would like to join us and donate money to Nepal you can use the envelopes provided at the entrances of the church. Thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of the people of Nepal. Through sharing, mutual support and prayer, women have the opportunity to clarify their values, identify their strengths, and bring this new awareness to their everyday lives. As a woman, you are the one person who knows what you need in your life. This is not a Bible study group, counseling group, or parenting class. It is designed for your spiritual growth. It is a 9-week spirituality series that will be offered Thursday evenings from 7:00-9:00 p.m. starting August 20 through October 15. The session will conclude with a celebration event on October 15. We especially would like to welcome any ladies who are new to the parish. Please feel free to ask your friends to come as well, it is an ecumenical program. It is a wonderful opportunity to connect with other women in our community. We will be seeking to fill this program early since we need to order the pilot materials for those registered. Registration fee is $25. You may call or text Melanie at 223-6178 or e-mail melned6@yahoo.com with any questions or to register. Welcome! We thank you for choosing to worship with us today and hope that you will return often. If you do not belong to a parish, we hope you will consider the Church of Corpus Christi. You may call the parish office at 255-4600 to register. Parenting Pointers: “There are only two lasting bequests we can hope to give our children. One of these is roots, the other is wings.” (Hodding Carter) If your life is rooted in faith, let your child see it. If your child takes a different path, believe that the Spirit will take care of him or her. As a parent of adult children your job is to let go but not give up. Marriage Moments: Summer is vacation time for many people. Have you planned a time away for just the two of you? It need not be long or expensive. The important thing is to do something for at least a day that both of you love. It’s marriage insurance.....by Susan Vogt www.SusanVogt.net. Tired of listening to the same stuff on the radio or television? Try listening to one of our many CDs when taking a car trip or while doing your chores. Pure Fatherhood: Fathers are the link between heaven and earth, and are intended to be an image of our Heavenly Father. Drawing on the example of St. Joseph, Devin Schadt shows us how to become a father on earth like the Father in heaven. Devin is a husband, a father of five, and the co-founder of the Fathers of St. Joseph, an apostolate dedicated to the renewal of authentic fatherhood. “Devin provides an authentic call to fatherly greatness.” Charles - Kernersville, NC “Devin’s blessing of discovering Pure Fatherhood will bless all men who listen.” - Norm - Biloxi, MS They can be found in the CD/bookstand in the lower gathering area. A $3.00 donation is suggested for each CD/book to help us continue this program. It takes the whole of life to learn how to live. Did you know... There are a few hearing aid devices available for parishioners to use during Mass. Please contact an usher to assist you in the sacristy vesting room.
