Century Cheerleading Kids’ Camp is Saturday, Oct. 10 at
CHS in the new gym. The camp is for grades K-8. Check-in
is at 8:45 - 9 am, camp is from 9 - 11:15 am, and there will
be a parent performance at 11:15.
Participants will receive:
* Supervised and safe instruction on cheers, chants, a dance,
jumps, and stunts.
* Camp T-shirt & snack.
Early registration is from now until Wednesday, Sept. 30.
and is $20 along with registration form. After Wednesday,
Sept. 30, the cost is $30. Send a check payable to ‘CHS

Do something EPIC!
Wednesday, Oct. 14
In a very moving, dancing, musical way, EPIC addresses
the many issues facing youth today. This FREE event is
open to the public on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 7 pm at the
Century High School auditorium. EPIC assemblies says,
“Get inspired to take off your mask and make positive
life changes!” This event is sponsored by the Century
SADD club and Northern Lights Youth Services. For more

ELL open house!
Thursday, Oct. 15
Bismarck Public Schools is having an open house at the
English Language Learner program’s Welcome Center on
Thursday, Oct. 15, from 4-8 pm at the Hughes building,
806 N. Washington Street, Door #2. Interpreters will be
available, and here will be computer workshops for parents,
activities for kids, door prizes, and refreshments.
The Welcome Center provides qualifying ELL students in
grades K-5 with intensive English instruction while they
transition to their neighborhood schools. For more info, call

Designer Genes Book Fair
& Storytime
Friday, Oct. 16
October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month and Designer
Genes is holding a book fair and storytime at Barnes &
Noble on Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 pm Purchases made in-store
that evening and online the week of Oct. 16 – 23 will result
in a donation to Designer Genes. Come to Barnes & Noble
to learn more about Down syndrome and to help raise funds
to send materials to families with loved ones with Down
syndrome.

Pink Weekend! Ticket prices are: $10 for adults; $5 for 18
and under; FREE for 5 and under.
Support the theme of October’s Breast Cancer Awareness
month by wearing pink! All ticket revenue raised on Friday,
Oct. 16 will be donated and directly affect local cancer
patients. A free will donation bucket will also be available
at each ticket table Friday and Saturday night.
Clothing Drive
Saturday, Oct. 17
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is providing
FREE, good condition, used clothing, coats, shoes, winter
boots, blankets, and hygiene kits to those in need in the
Bismarck/Mandan area. This event is open to the public 8
am to 1 pm Saturday, Oct. 17, at 1500 Country West Rd.
Items are available on a first come, first basis while supplies
last. Please bring bags to hold the things you want to take.
Although individual need will not be assessed, the church
requires that all items taken from the event go to personal
use and not be resold. If you need assistance, please do not

The next meeting of the Community Engagement Team
(CET) is Wed., Oct. 21, 6-7 pm at the Bismarck Public
Library. American Indian youth & health issues will be
addressed. There will be a costume Halloween party for kids
from 7-8:30 pm with refreshments, prizes and FREE fleece
jackets/shoes for youth (first come-first served). For more

U-Mary Girls Basketball
1-Day Camp
Friday, Oct. 23
The University of Mary Marauders are hosting a basketball
camp for girls grades K-6 on Fri., Oct. 23, at the McDowell
Activity Center from 9 am – 12 pm. The mission is to
assist girls in developing basketball skills needed to
compete. Individual skills and team development strategies
will taught by the U-Mary women’s basketball team and
coaching staff. Cost is $35 for 1 child and $30 for more

Barry’s Kids will hold its 6th Annual Bowling Fun Day Bonanza on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 1 pm at Midway Lanes. The
fundraiser will benefit those with special needs in the Bis/
Man area. There will be a silent auction and prizes. The cost

BHS Demonettes
Mini-Dance Camp
Girl Talk
Sunday, Nov. 1
Saturday, Oct. 24
Join the Bismarck High Demonettes in the BHS Karlgaard
gym for a morning of dance on Saturday, Oct. 24 from
8:30 am - 12 pm. Check in will start at 8:30 am and the
performance for parents starts at 11:30 am. Girls and
boys in grades K-6 are invited to learn more about the
fundamental skills of High Kick, Jazz & Hip Hop as they
learn a specially-choreographed routine for their age group.
Cost is $35 and includes a snack & T-shirt (bring own
snack if your child has food allergies). Please wear stretch

Fire safety poster contest
Deadline: Monday, Oct. 26
The Bismarck Fire Department is sponsoring a fire safety
poster contest that is open to all 4th and 5th grade students.
Posters are to be done on 8 ½” x 11” paper only. Posters are
to be related to this year’s fire prevention theme “Hear The
Beep, Where You Sleep.” All posters need to be submitted
to Headquarters Fire Station, 1020 E. Central Ave.,
Bismarck, ND 58501, by Monday, Oct. 26 at 4 pm.
Please print the following on the back of all posters:
Student’s full name, Parent or guardian’s name, telephone
number, teacher’s name, school, and grade level.
Each grade’s first place winner will be notified by the end of
the day on Oct. 30. First place winners will receive a ride to
their school in a fire truck. Rides will be given on Monday,
Nov. 2 and Tuesday, Nov. 3. For any questions contact the

Red Ribbon Carnival!

Elementary students and their families are invited to a night
of games, food and fun (children must be accompanied
by an adult) at the 18th annual Red Ribbon Carnival on
Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 4 - 7 pm at the Aviation Readiness
Center, 3410 Airway Ave. Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23-30)
encourages youth to choose a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
First 5 game tickets are FREE with a donation of a nonperishable food item which will go to the Community

Mid Dakota Clinic Center for Women invites girls ages
9-13 to attend this special “Girl Talk” session from 2-3:30
pm on Sunday, Nov. 1 at CHI St. Alexius Health’s Boniface
Auditorium. Patty Becker, RN, will discuss growing up and
the changes that go with it. This session will be helpful for
mothers and daughters to start on the same page as they

New Song Church will be hosting its annual Trunk or Treat
event on Saturday, Oct. 31 from 4:30-7 pm. Enjoy candy,
games, prizes, hot dogs, cotton candy, face painting, and
more in a safe and fun environment. And it’s all FREE!

Scholarship Pageant
Sunday, Nov. 8
The local Miss America Pageant is looking for contestants
for Miss, Teen, & Princess categories. Scholarships to
be awarded for Miss & Teen titleholders! Please email

Sunday, Nov. 8 at Simle Middle School. Contestants will be

KidzCurl is back!
Missouri Valley
Family YMCA
The Capital Curling Club is sponsoring Saturday morning
curling for grades 1-12. Any student that would like to learn
to curl, or continue to improve their curling, is encouraged
to participate. Cost is $30 for the season (approximately 17
sessions). Please note the early start date!
Adventure Camp
YMCA Adventure Camp is an exciting place to be on
days off school. Activities include art, gym and outdoor
activities. For kids ages 8 and over, The Y also offers
swimming. Hours are from 6:30 am – 6 pm. Breakfast,
lunch and afternoon snacks are included. Registration is

Starting Saturday, Nov. 7
Students in grades 1-5 will be on the ice from 9-10:20 am,
followed by grades 6-12 from 10:30 to noon. No previous
experience is required and the 10:30 session students will
have the chance to be on a junior curling team this year
and do some competitive curling. Classes go until the end
of February and are located at the VFW Sports Center,
just south of the Bismarck YMCA. For more information,

BHS & LHS students fight
hunger
Saturday, Nov. 14
The Key Clubs at Bismarck and Legacy High Schools are
having a Pack the Pantry event on Saturday, November 14,
9 am to 2 pm at the BHS Karlgaard Gym and at the Legacy
parking lot. Key Club is a school and community service
group. Nonperishable food items will be collected for
Carrie’s Kids, United Way, Salvation Army, and school food

Right Track seeks workers
The Right Track Program at BECEP is looking to hire
independent consultants to serve Burleigh, McLean,
Sheridan, Kidder, Emmons and/or Grant County.
Responsibilities include administering in-home
developmental screenings for children ages birth to three,
providing developmental activities and parental support,
and making referrals to other programs.
A BA or BS degree in Early Childhood, Early Childhood
Special Education, Social Work, Nursing, Physical Therapy,
Occupational Therapy or Speech Therapy, a license to
practice in North Dakota, knowledge of child development,
and experience working with infants and toddlers required.
Hours are part-time and flexible. If interested, please

Youth Fitness Classes
A group fitness class introduces different fitness activities:
circuit training, Zumba®, kickboxing, yoga, etc. to youth
5-12 years old. Classes will meet Mondays and Thursdays
6:30-7:15 pm.
Itty Bitty Activities
Itty Bitty Activities are designed to get children ages 3-5
moving and learning. Parents and guardians are encouraged
to participate with their child. All participants will receive
an Itty Bitty water bottle.

2015-16 School Year After School Care
The YMCA Youth Development Center offers after school
programming for K – 5th grade students at three locations:
YMCA, School Age Learning Center North (Century
Baptist) and School Age Learning Center Divide (First
Baptist Church). Contact the Program Coordinator at

YMCA Youth Development Pass
The Youth Development Pass is FREE and available for
youth grades K-6 in Bismarck-Mandan. It includes use
of swimming pools, basketball courts, locker room, and
youth fitness classes. Pick up an application at the Member
Services Desk.
The Friday Flier is e-mailed to parents of public &
private school students in Bismarck, grades Pre-K-8,
every other Friday during the school year. It’s produced
by Bismarck Public Schools as a service to non-profit
community organizations that provide positive events
and activities for students and families. With the exception of official BPS activities, these events are not
sponsored/endorsed by BPS. Fundraising events such
as benefit breakfasts or auctions/dinners will not be
allowed, nor will notices that directly compete with
BPS events, activities and services. For a copy of the
