Making Conference Calls
Conference calling allows three or more parties to
participate simultaneously in a call. Your
Cisco IP Phone supports several types of conference
calls depending on your configuration. Check with
your system administrator to determine what is
enabled on your phone. The following conference
softkeys might be available on your phone:
•
Confrn—Use to establish conferences by calling
each participant individually. Conferencing is
available on most phones.
•
Join—Use to establish a conference among
several current calls on a single line.
•
cBarge—Use to begin a conference call on a
shared line. This optional feature is available only
for shared lines.
•
Meet-Me—Use to host a conference requiring
that participants call an established number at a
specific time. Your system administrator must
configure this special feature for you. See
“Starting or Joining a Meet-Me Conference Call”
section on page 40 for more information.

Advanced Call Handling
Advanced call-handling tasks require access to special
features. Your system administrator might configure
these features for your phone depending on your
call-handling needs and work environment.
Parking and Retrieving Parked Calls
You can “park” a call when you want to store the call
so that you or someone else can retrieve it from
another phone in the Cisco CallManager system (for
example, a phone at a co-worker’s desk or in a
conference room). Call Park is a feature that your
system administrator must enable for you.
If you want to...
Then...
Store an active call
by using Call Park
During a call, press to switch to
Park and press it. The system
stores the call.
The phone screen displays the
special call park number at which
the call is stored. Make a note of
the call park number.
Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 for Cisco CallManager
43
If you want to...
Then...
Retrieve a parked
call
Enter the call park number from
any phone in the
Cisco CallManager system to
connect to the call.
Tip
You have a limited amount of time to retrieve the
parked call before it reverts to ringing at its original
destination. See your system administrator for this
time limit.
Picking Up a Redirected Call on Your
Phone
Your system administrator might enable Call PickUp
for your phone if you share call-handling with
co-workers. Call PickUp allows you to answer a call
that is ringing on a co-worker’s phone by redirecting
the call to your phone. You can use Call PickUp
features to handle calls for co-workers who are in
your call pickup group (PickUp) or who are in another
pickup group (GPickUp).

Tips
•

system administrator.
•
When you press PickUp or GPickUp, you connect
to the call that has been ringing for the longest
time.
Using a Shared Line
Your system administrator might give you a “shared”
line. Shared-line features do not apply to standard,
unshared lines. Typically, a shared line has two main
uses:
•
One person applies a shared line to multiple
phones—For example, your shared line, 23456,
applies to your wireless IP phone and to your
Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 for Cisco CallManager
45
office desktop phone. An incoming call to 23456
rings on your desk and on your wireless IP phone,
and you can use either phone to answer the call.
•
Multiple people share a line—For example, you
are a manager who shares a line and extension
number with your assistant. An incoming call to
the extension rings on both of the phones.
If you have a shared line, you might see the
“in-use-remote” message on your phone screen
indicating that a co-worker is currently using the
shared line. You can place and receive calls as usual on
a shared line, even when the remote-in-use message
displays.
Maximum Supported Calls on a Shared Line
The maximum number of calls that a shared line
supports can vary by phone model. For example, your
Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 supports a maximum of
two calls on a shared line while your co-worker’s
Cisco IP Phone 7960 can support four calls on the
same line. If there are two calls on the line, the
NewCall softkey is unavailable to you but is available
to your co-worker.
46
78-16888-01
Advanced Call Handling
Sharing Call Information and Barging
Your phone screen displays information about calls
that your co-worker places and receives on the shared
line. This information might include caller ID and call
duration. Also, when you are using a shared line,
information about your call is displayed on the
co-worker’s phone screen.
When call information is visible on the phone screen,
you and co-workers can add yourselves to calls on the
shared line by using the barging features.
Barge—Allows you to join a shared-line call with an
IP phone model that has the built-in bridge enabled.
You cannot use Barge to enter a shared-line call with
another Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920.
cBarge—Allows you to join a shared-line call with any
IP phone model and convert the call to a conference.
Privacy—If you do not want co-workers who share
your line to see information about your calls, enable
the Privacy feature. Also Privacy prevents co-workers
from barging your calls. See the “Preventing Others
from Viewing or Joining a Shared-Line Call” section
on page 49.
If you want to...
Then...

on a shared line by
using Barge

You can only join a call that a
Cisco IP Phone (with Barge
enabled) initiates.
Add yourself to a
call on a shared
line by using
cBarge
Select an “in-use-remote” call on
your screen and press cBarge.
Other parties hear a tone and
brief audio interruption, and call
information changes on the phone
screen.
cBarge converts the call into a
conference so you can add new
participants to the conference
call. See the “Making Conference
Calls” section on page 37 for
more information.

Tips
•
Barge and cBarge softkeys are not available for
private calls.
•
You will be disconnected from a call that you
have joined using Barge if the call is put on hold,
transferred, or turned into a conference call.
Preventing Others from Viewing or Joining a
Shared-Line Call
If you have a shared line, you can enable the Privacy
feature to prevent others who share this line from
viewing or joining your calls on this line.
If you want to...
Then...
Prevent others from

Tips
•
If you have Privacy enabled on a shared line and
make a call, “ in use remote” does not display on
other phones that share the line; there is no
indication when the line is in use.
Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 for Cisco CallManager
49
•
If all other phones that share the same line have
Privacy enabled, you can still make new calls
using the shared line. However, you cannot join
any in-progress calls using the shared line.
Tracing Suspicious Calls
If you are receiving suspicious or malicious calls, your
system administrator can add the Malicious Call
Identification (MCID) feature to your phone. This
feature enables you to identify an active call as
suspicious, which initiates a series of automated
tracking and notification messages.
If you want to...
Then...
Identify a
suspicious call
Press MCID. If the MCID request
is successful, you will hear a
special tone and see the message,
“MCID successful” on your
phone. The call remains active
until you end the call.
Prioritizing Critical Calls
In some specialized environments, such as military or
government offices, you might need to make and
receive urgent or critical calls. These critical calls
might require higher priority handling, such as being
able to bypass other calls. If you require specialized
50

call-handling capability, your system administrator
can add Multilevel Precedence and Preemption
(MLPP) to your phone.
Keep these terms in mind:
•
Precedence indicates the priority associated with
a call.
•
Preemption is the process of ending an existing,
lower priority call while accepting a higher
priority call that is sent to your phone.
If you want to...
Then...

indicate the priority:

Accept a
higher-priority call
When you hear the special call
waiting tone, end the active call
and answer the higher-priority
call.
Receive a
preemption call
While on an active call, you hear a
continuous tone for about 10
seconds. The preemption call then
overrides the active call.
Tips

When you make or receive an MLPP-enabled call,
you will hear special ring tones and call waiting
tones that differ from the standard tones.

If you enter an invalid MLPP access number, a
verbal announcement will alert you of the error.

Network Profiles
Network profiles provide predefined settings for

configurations at different locations.
For example, when you are working in your local
office, you can choose the network profile for that
location. When you travel to another office, the
WLAN might use a different SSID and authentication
settings, so you need to select a different profile.
Choosing a Network Profile
Your Cisco Wireless IP Phone 7920 can have up to
four network profiles. You can set your phone to
