JOB DESCRIPTION The Senior Network Engineer (SNE) is responsible for activities related to the design, installation, management, and maintenance of the enterprise-wide LAN, WAN, wirleless and network security infrastructure. The SNE will maintain network availability, reliability and performance that conform to all service level agreements. The SNE provides support for all Windows and Linux environments including resolving systems related issues escalated from the Service Desk. This position will establish enterprise data network standards, analyze and resolve complex network related problems, and analyze and test all elements of the network infrastructure. The SNE will design and implement network solutions based on business requirements. This position requires technical knowledge and experience in monitoring, security, backup, recovery, and maintaining an Enterprise datacenter. Analyzes trends and assists in design and development of network plans. Interfaces with vendors to learn about new data communications technology and system upgrades. DUTIES Evaluates, tests, recommends, and implements specific network solutions. Manage assigned network related tasks for projects. Perform engineering, design and technical support for internal and external networks. Coordinates with other offices any network changes or activities that could affect them. Schedules and coordinates installation and maintenance of software/hardware on the network and ensures compatibility of all communications and computer hardware/software. Provide hands-on support, maintenance, performance monitoring, and optimization of all LAN/WAN infrastructure including physical cable plant, wireless, and associated equipment. Provides planning and technical support to determine network business needs throughout the company. Complies with all standard internal controls and processes. Viewed as technical SME in network analysis, design and engineering. Ensures that system improvements are successfully implemented monitored to gain the greatest efficiencies. Manages network projects related to technology pilots, conversions, implementations, etc. Troubleshoots the most complex network issues as level 2/3 engineering support. Establishes network priorities as they relate to the achievement of short and long-term business goals and objectives. Full knowledge of the business and architecture of the network. Effectively communicate network event status and impact to management Responsible for insuring compatibility and connection of networks between SPE offices. Responsible for network security including but not limited to intrusion/virus protection, anti-spam, virtual private network(s), and fire wall(s). Recommends new technology as appropriate. Knowledge/Skills Expert knowledge of a variety of network management tools, test equipment, circuits, and routers. Extensive knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stacks and firewall security in an inter-networking environment. Knowledge of Quality of Service and experience designing/implementing QoS in an enterprise environment. Advanced knowledge in Cisco Network including: Cisco firewalls, switches & routers Cisco Wireless LAN Controller and LWAPP Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service, communications, and presentation skills. Ability to serve as a technical mentor to others and guides less experienced engineers and technicians in resolving complex problems. Ability to apply expert knowledge of network engineering to the most complex problems and to direct, train, and guide less experienced engineers Experience 8-10 years of related enterprise data network experience. Experience with Cisco network knowledge Experience with Cisco ISE Experience with VoIP and QoS. WAF experience preferred F5 Loadbalancer experience Experience working on project teams including providing technical consultation to project managers on impacts to network infrastructure. Experience in performance tuning, hardware refresh, monitoring, backup and recovery, and security. Experience in identifying networking issues pertaining to design, optimization, and implementation within client server and web architectures. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
