1. Active transport: movement of large molecules across the cell membrane that uses the cell's energy.
2. Diffusion:the movement of molecules from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration. 3.Endocytosis: The movement of very large particles into the cell. Energy is used and a vesicle is formed.
4. Exocytosis: A vesicle joins with the cell membrane and
large particles are released.
5. Facilitated diffusion: Molecules enter the cell through
openings created by proteins in the cell membrane.
6. Osmosis: diffusion of WATER.
7. Passive transport: Movement of
molecules across the cell membrane
that does NOT require the cell to use
its own energy. (diffusion, facilitated
diffusion and osmosis)

1. The mesh bag represents the cell membrane. The mesh bag is like a cell membrane because: the bag surrounds the March 02, 2015
materials inside of it and allows only some things to go through it. The cell membrane surrounds the cell and allows materials to pass through it.
2. The balls and the sand represent molecules of different sizes. The balls represent molecules that are large and the sand represents molecules that are tiny or smaller.
3. The materials that the mesh bag allows to pass through
must be smaller than the openings (holes) in the mesh bag.
4. The balls cannot pass through the mesh bag because they are too large to fit through the openings in the mesh bag.
6.Two other materials that can pass through the mesh bag are water (liquids), gasses such as air or oxygen, sugar, salt, flour, and very small pebbles, or any material that is smaller than the openings in the mesh bag. Diffusionosmosis201522715.notebook

5. Other materials that could remain in the
bag are bricks, a bowl, a shoe (not
Barbie's),or any other object that is larger
than the openings in the mesh bag.
7. The mesh bag is considered to be
selectively permeable because it allows only
objects that are smaller than the openings to
pass through.
8. The illustration shows passive transport
because no energy was used to move the
sand through the openings in the bag.
