4th Six Weeks Describe the elements of culture and explain perceptions of culture by using maps, images, and databases. Describe the characteristics of the same regions during different periods of time and evaluate relationships between events of the past and current conditions using maps and pictures. Compare the lifestyles of people of various urban and rural societies around the world using databases and P.E.G.S. Identify and locate the physical processes of Africa and relate the physical processes that created them by interpreting and creating maps. Identify the impact of colonization on Africa and its effects today using news articles and political cartoons. Examine the impact of diseases and challenges that African countries face using graphic organizers and research. 5th Six Weeks 6th Six Weeks Analyze the importance of location, management, and innovation of natural resources using articles. Examine Animism and 3 major religions including Judaism, Christianity, and Islam using video segment, selected readings, and graphic organizers. Identify and explain impacts of prominent scientists during the scientific revolution by reading and completing a word web. Students will then, analyze the ideas of enlightenment philosophes by researching and producing a visual and audio summary of the information. Explain the Enlightenment’s impact on political revolutions by finding examples of enlightenment ideals in the three revolutions. Then Compare the causes, characteristics, and consequences of the American, French, and Latin American revolutions by finding similarities and differences. Identify the causes of and the political, social, and economic changes in Europe as a result of the Industrial revolution by critically reading and completing a graphic organizer. Identify the major technological advances and the religious, political, economic, and social motivations that influenced European Imperialism as well as the impact of imperialism by reading and completing a graphic organizer. Identify the importance of each cause World War I (MAIN) by defining their meaning and identify the major characteristics of World War I and explain the political impact of the Fourteen Points by reading and answering questions in a graphic organizer. Analyze reading passages, visuals, and quotes to better understand the effects of world­wide depression, especially as it related to the rise of dictators in different parts of the world. Evaluate reading passages to determine the major causes, events and characteristics of World War II. Students will interpret maps and visuals to determine how geography shaped the development of World War II and also to better understand that when wars occur political boundaries usually change. Students will Identify the causes of the Cold War and its impact on foreign and domestic policy. Analyze the American culture of conformity and consumerism of the 1950s. Analyze sources of conflict of the 1950s such as the Cold War, McCarthyism and the Civil Rights Movement. Analyze sources of conflict of the 1960s such as the Cold War, the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights Movement. Analyze LBJ’s Great Society and its impact on American society then and today. Analyze sources of conflict such as the end of the Vietnam War and the Watergate scandal. Analyze the presidency of Jimmy Carter and issues such as the energy crisis and the Iran Hostage crisis. Analyze the principles of free enterprise, including the government’s role in promoting efficiency, growth, and stability. 5th Six Weeks Identify how and why government regulates competition. Develop a mini business plan to demonstrate understanding of the process of starting a small business Create money that that represents student values and fits the definition of money as discussed in class. Identify how to turn nominal into real GDP Analyze business cycles and economic growth using key economic indicators. Create a poster using visuals to represent the business cycle. Explain how a lack of trade can inhibit economic growth using historical facts. 6th Six Weeks Understand the impact of fiscal policy decisions by attempting to balance the federal budget. Identify and examine the rights of citizens in the United States by reviewing the U.S. Constitution including the Bill of Rights and the modern day implications. Analyze, explain, and compare the powers of national, state, and local government by using graphic organizers and conducting research. Define civic responsibility by comparing duties of citizenship (personal and civic) and analyze civic participation locally, statewide, nationwide, and globally by analyzing current events.
