It is also home to several fish species at
risk, such as the black redhorse and river
redhorse which are found in few locations
in Canada. From fly fishing to platform raft
fishing, fisherman have access to miles of
shoreline to take advantage of excellent angling all along the Grand River.
This area also offers an abundance of
smaller creeks and ponds. Why not take the
family to Mt. Pleasant Nature Park where
you can fish the stocked trout ponds.

Designated an Exceptional Waterway the
Grand River flows through Brantford and
Brant County on it’s way to Lake Erie.
With cold water entering the river from
groundwater sources and Whiteman’s
Creek, plus the characteristics of the river
itself, the result is a good habitat for a wide
range of species including northern pike,
small mouth bass, walleye, and a even rainbow trout.

The County of Brant is proud to be
‘Adventurous In Nature’ and we invite you to “Experience the Adventure with us!” Our trail system runs
through the largest watershed in
southern Ontario boasting some of
the most sought after and unique
qualities found anywhere. The
Grand River is a nationally designated Heritage River, home to over
80 species of fish and a paddlers
dream with slow meandering por
tions interrupted by fast running
strong current sections. The 25+km
of paths that make up one of the
most beautiful and conveniently
connected trail systems anywhere
winds through the only tract of
Carolinian Forest found in Canada
where plants and birds native to the
southern U.S. are spotted in abun

to Paris. Beginning at the northeast end ofCH ST
Paris on East River Road, the trail follows
the abandoned railbed of the Lake Erie and
Northern Railway (LE&N). Entering Brantford,
this scenic trail passes through a significant
prairie habitat. In some areas the hilly
terrain offers challenges of grades and tight
turns. The SC Johnson trail ends at Wilkes
Dam offering plenty of space to relax to the
soothing sounds of the Grand River. With
scenic views, significant natural areas and
a direct connection to Glenhyrst Art Gallery,
the SC Johnson Trail offers a variety of
activities for all ages.

ciTy of BraNTford Trails
Brantford’s trail system began as part of
the system of dikes built to protect the City
from the seasonal flooding of the Grand
River. In 1993, that network of paths was
named in honour of the late Gordon C.
Glaves, a prominent Brantford resident
and community volunteer.
Today the Gordon Glaves Grand River
Loop takes trail users on a 19 km scenic
tour that travels along both sides of the
meandering Grand River.
From its early beginnings as a protective
dike, Brantford’s trail systems have grown
and are now more than 70 km long. The
trails are shared use, and ideal for hiking,
jogging, cycling, exploring nature and
given proper winter conditions, even cross
Brock’s rouTE
Travelling along the trail from
Hamilton to Brantford to Port Dover,
the route that Isaac Brock took
during the War of 1812 and is part
of this area’s history. Trail markers
along the route commemorating 200 years
of peace. Brock’s Route follows the Trans
Canada Trail, Hamilton to Brantford Rail Trail,
City of Brantford Trail Systems and the TH&B
Rail Trail within Brantford and Brant County.

HaMilToN To BraNTford rail-Trail
The Hamilton to Brantford Rail-Trail is
Ontario’s first entirely off-road, interurban
hiking and biking trail. The trail begins on the
west side of Hamilton near McMaster
University. Trail users can enjoy 32 km of
stonedust trail on the abandoned railbed of
the Toronto, Hamilton and Buffalo Railway
(TH&B). The east end of the trail crosses
under Highway 403 into Brantford, and
connects with Brantford’s extensive trail
system. This level trail offers an easy route
for cyclist and hikers. There are no stores
along the route, so remember to pack
