New NMC Building Leadership Team Page Andrew Mosker, President and CEO Born in Toronto, raised in Montreal and headquartered in Calgary, Andrew has a good sense of what it means to be Canadian. With a B.A. in History from Concordia (1992), a Diploma in Contemporary Jazz Performance from Grant MacEwan College (1997) and a Masters of Musicology from the University of Calgary, he also has a deep understanding of and passion for music – past, present and future. With extensive research into what a makes a great visitor experience for people who care about music, coupled with a decade of the job practical experience in public programming, collections development, conservation, access and management, fundraising and marketing, Andrew has a unique skill set that makes him the ideal leader for the National Music Centre– a concept that Uills a void in Canada and has assimilated the best ideas from best practices known globally. Joe Geurts, Project Manager An accomplished senior executive, Joe spent over 33 years in the federal public service. He served in a number of capacities for over 20 years with the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation in Ottawa, the last seven years (2000‐2007) as Director& CEO, Canadian War Museum (CWM). During his tenure with the CWM, he directed the development of new exhibitions and the construction of the new Canadian War Museum (opened in May 2005). The project was successfully completed on time and within budget – the museum is now one of the most popular museums in the country and has won numerous awards for its architecture. Since his departure from the CWM in 2007, Joe has served in a consulting capacity to several museum projects the role of construction manager for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights in Winnipeg. Charlie Fischer, NMC Board Member, Chair, Building Committee A distinguished business leader with top‐level executive experience as president and CEO of Calgary‐based Nexen (2001‐2008), Charlie is well known for his business acumen as well as for his dedication to his community. Heavily involved in charitable projects throughout the city, the National Music Centre is thrilled to have his expertise, his compassion and his solid business sense as chair of the building committee. Richard Singleton, NMC Board Member, Building Committee A lifelong Calgarian, Ric’s 36‐year career in architecture is evident throughout the province of Alberta primarily in the commercial and institutional building areas. Notable examples include Bankers Hall, the Hyatt Hotel, the Husky Oil complex, and Trimac House in Calgary. Ric has founded numerous student educational scholarships in the province, given at the Banff Centre, Olds College, Mt Royal College, the Calgary Foundation and others. Ron Mannix, NMC Board Member, Building Committee Ron grew up learning about the family business his grandfather Frederick S. Mannix began in 1898 as one of western Canada's Uirst construction Uirms. When Ron joined the business in 1973, he took his place in a business that had diversiUied to include ventures such as oil and gas exploration and production, venture capital, coal mining, pipelining and railroad maintenance services. While he worked to grow the family businesses, Ron also took care to give back to the community, largely in a very quiet and private way, and always with a greater purpose in mind. Ron believes that music has the most universal ability of all the arts to strengthen the human spirit. A member of the organization’s advisory committee since its inception and an NMC board member since 2010, Ron’s vast and diverse experience in the has been an invaluable resource for the organization. Desiree Bombenon, NMC Board Member, Chair, Capital Campaign Cabinet Heading up the capital campaign raising money for the new NMC building, Desiree Bombenon has worked in the communications and call centre industry for over 18 years. With a background in business administration and management, and a concentration in marketing, Desiree is the current President and COO of PDL Contact Centres Ltd., and is recognized as one of Calgary’s young business leaders. Desiree is an active member of Young Presidents Organization, International Women’s Forum and has chaired several industry boards and focus groups. She offers extensive philanthropic support to many organizations including the Alberta Adolescent Recovery Centre, the Alberta Cancer Foundation, the Bill Brooks Prostate Cancer Foundation, Safe Haven, the Calgary Urban Projects Society, the United Way and Muscular Dystrophy.
