General Course Information
Title: AutoCAD 1 (95115)
Department: Technical Education
Credits: 0.5
Length: 1 semester
Elective or Required: Elective

Prerequisites: None
Course Description: Students are introduced to computer drafting using AutoCAD. Upon completion of
AutoCAD, the student will be able to create a basic two dimensional drawing using drawing and editing tools,
organize drawing objects on layers, add text and basic dimensions, and plot their drawing.
Parent-Instructor Communication
The instructor will strive to contact the parents when [he/she] observes tendencies including – but not
limited to – the following: lack of academic effort, poor and failing grades, and classroom misconduct. Parents
are urged to communicate with the instructor when they have questions and concerns. The instructor will
make every effort to respond to voice mails and emails in a timely manner
Course Details
Course Purpose: This course introduces computer-aided drafting (CAD). The course shows how to use
AutoCAD to set up drawings and construct lines, circles, arcs, other shapes, geometric constructions, and text.
Students will use display and editing techniques as well to obtain information about their drawings and work
with drawing files. This course also introduces recommended drafting standards for students to use for
properly preparing drawings with AutoCAD.
Course Goals:
This course will:
• Impart he ability to visualize in three dimensions.
• Develop and strengthen the student’s technical knowledge and imagination.
• Develop and strengthen the student’s ability to think precisely.
• Develop proper stewardship of God-given time and talents.

Course Outcomes:
The students will:
♦ Use the AutoCAD interface and a keyboard, cursor pointing device, and graphics terminal to put
drawing information into a computer.
♦ Describe and use the basic terms, concepts, and techniques of computer-aided drafting.
♦ Set up drawings, use drawing aids, save drawings, and get help when needed.
♦ Draw lines, basic shapes, and geometric constructions, and edit drawings.
♦ Make multi-view layouts and plot or print drawings.
Student Materials:
• Pocket folder
Instructional Strategies
New concepts or procedures will be explained and/or demonstrated. Practical applications of information
will be discussed in class. Students will demonstrate their understanding by producing assigned drawings.
Assignments & Assessments
All assignments are done in Computer Lab 1327. Each assignment is worth 25 points. There are normally two
drawings due per week (exceptions are shortened weeks where only one drawing is due). Assignment due
dates are listed in Power School and are at the end of each week (normally Friday). A semester exam is given
worth 100 points (equal to four drawings).

Grading Policy:
The final semester grade in this course is calculated based on all of the assignments given over the course of
the semester using 25 points as the maximum score for each drawing and 100 points for the semester exam
(equal to four drawings). The semester exam grade is included in the second quarter grade, not a separate
exam grade. Each mistake is one point off of the maximum 25. For this reason, the semester grade shown in
PowerSchool is a better indicator of student achievement during the course than the quarter grade.
Grading Procedures: Grades will be entered into PowerSchool regularly.
Make-Up Work: Students absent from class are responsible for material presented in class on said missed
days. The student must arrange some time to meet with instructor regarding missed material.
Late and Incomplete Work: All assignments must be turned in by due date. Assignments not turned in
receive a score of zero. Partial credit is given for assignments.
Major Assignments: Failure to complete all major assignments in a course results in an automatic “F” for the
course. There are no assignments designated as “major” in this course.
Classroom Procedures
Attendance: Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes in accordance with the attendance policy
as outlined in the KML Student Handbook. In the event of an absence, it is the responsibility of the student to
follow all necessary steps as outlined in the handbook.
Tardiness: Students are expected to be in the classroom when the class begins in accordance with the
tardiness policy as outlined in the KML Student Handbook. The instructor will notify students if they have
been marked tardy.
Academic Dishonesty: KML expects all students will honor the principles of honesty and truth as taught in
God’s Word. This means that all academic work will be done by the student to whom it was assigned without
unauthorized aid of any kind. Research sources must be cited fully and accurately. The school reserves the
right to use academic screening methods to check the authenticity of student work. Refer to the KML Student
Handbook for additional guidelines concerning penalties for cheating. A score of zero is recorded for the
assignment and a detention given to the student who either copies or allows someone to copy his/her
assignment.
Behavior: There is room for humor. I hope that we can have fun together. However, it cannot interfere with our
work - nor can it disturb other classes. You are special person. God loves you. Jesus died for you. God gave each
of you special gifts. God expects you to use those gifts faithfully. He expects no more -- no less.
Daily Routine:
• Students enter classroom and log on to AutoCAD.
• Corrected assignments are located in middle table for students to pick up.
• Students get text book and assemble around middle table and wait for daily instructions.
• Students check assignments and check Power School for grades.
Academic Progress: It is the intent of KML that all students enrolled in this course should complete it
successfully. The instructor will strive diligently to help students to succeed. When it becomes apparent to
the instructor that a student has placed himself/herself in jeopardy of meeting the minimum requirements of
the course, the instructor may begin the procedure outlined in the Academic Progress Policy of the KML
Student Handbook in order to remedy the situation.
Course Help: Students that need extra help are encouraged to seek out instructor for said help. There is
plenty of time in class to finish all assignments, but some students may need/want extra time. Students are
therefore encouraged to use the computer lab during their free periods or before/after school if
arrangements have been made.
