AP World History
Summer 2015 Assignment
All 10th grade Achievers take Advanced Placement (AP) World History, a course which allows students to
pursue college-level studies while still in high school. The course culminates in a rigorous three hour exam that
enables students to demonstrate mastery of college-level course work. Universities across the world recognize
AP exam scores in the admission process and/or award credit and placement for qualifying scores.
The AP World History course includes six chronological periods, from approximately 8,000 B.C.E. to present.
You have started your investigation of course themes and key concepts for the first periods during your 9th
grade World History class and your summer assignment is designed to reinforce and build upon that knowledge.

In order to prepare for learning content on the first day of the next school year, please prepare the following
items:
1. Purchase and prepare a 2”-3” binder with six dividers labeled:
 8,000 B.C.E. – 600 C.E.
 600 C.E. – 1450
 1450 – 1750
 1750 – 1900
 1900 – Present
 Essays
2. Purchase Cracking the AP World History Exam, 2015 Edition (ISBN: 080412518X). Please pay close
attention to the edition in order to purchase the correct book. Contact Ms. Zigmond by June 10th if you
need help purchasing this book.
3. Read and annotate “Ancient Stuff: 8,000 B.C.E. to 600 C.E.” Prepare handwritten notes in Cornell
format for each section. Put these notes in the 8,000 B.C.E. – 600 C.E. section of your binder.
4. Study your notes for an assessment during the first week of school
This is an individual assignment.
All materials are due on the first day of SY2015-2016.
