Thespian Information for Students
Below you will find the do’s, don’ts, hints and tips for attending thespian festival
as a member of Stevenson High School’s Thespian Troupe 033
THE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS TO KNOW




You must drop your bag off in the auditorium in the morning or during the school
day.
Your bag will be searched by district employees of the same sex to ensure nothing
illegal is being brought along.
Anyone violating school rules and regulations is subject to having a parent
contacted to come pick them up. Anyone violating state laws is subject to police
involvement. This is applicable at all times during this trip(Don’t Test Me!!!)
There will be 7 adults chaperoning this event, and all students are expected to be
where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there, actively engage
in all the things the festival offers, and conduct themselves with a level of behavior
that accurately represents themselves, our program, our school, and our
community. This requirement covers not just the time at Saginaw Valley, but in
every part of the hotel, including your private hotel room. We are not the only
guests!!!
Other things to know




This is a field trip, a conference, and a festival. It is NOT a three day party with your friends and
without your parents.
All three days (Thurs-Sat) are long days, so plan correctly when it comes to things like sleep,
food, medication, and pacing your energy
Each day is a little different. Thursday is travel, company dinner at the hotel, socializing, and
practicing for your event. Friday is a mix of seeing shows, performing your event, watching your
peers perform, attending workshops, eating, and hanging out. Saturday is a mix of seeing
shows, college auditions, workshops, eating, hanging out, and enjoying the closing ceremonies.
We will be back VERY late Saturday night and even in to Sunday morning. Last year we arrived
back at 1am. Prepare accordingly.
Things to bring



Anything you need for your event like music, a CD player, display boards, the right shoes, etc.
All things you need to accommodate yourself for overnight stays, including but not limited to
clothing, personal hygiene items, and medications. Don’t bring too much!
Any special snacks or drinks you might want, but don’t be out of hand. Food will be available to
you most all the time.

Clothing appropriate to each day: Thurs is travel, so something comfortable. Friday is
performances, so something professional that you can move around in. A change of clothes if
you’d like something that is more comfortable for when you are not performing. Saturday, if you
are not attending scholarship auditions, is also a comfortable clothing day. Keep in mind
“comfortable clothing” does not mean pj’s, it means things like yoga pants, jeans, and some sort
of Titan Theater Troupe spirit wear or show shirt.
A bathing suit if you wish to swim. Keep in mind students from a handful of other schools will
be there and you should heavily consider the level of decency you wish to project when
choosing your swimwear.
A little extra cash. Food will be supplied for you the whole weekend, but you may want
something from a vending machine, some coffee, and there are also vendors selling theater
related clothes, jewelry, etc.
Bring a few extra dollar bills. As an organization, the Michigan Thespians support Camp
Rainbear, a summer camp for children and families dealing with HIV/Aids. There will be some
simple things to purchase, and an opportunity to donate directly.
***You may want to bring a small sports backpack/drawstring bag for things you need to take to
the festival. We don’t have a room of our own at the festival, only a place to dump all of our
stuff. Don’t overburden yourself by bringing too much***
Things to NOT bring




Fancy and expensive things like jewelry, ipads, ipods, etc. You will be occupied most of the time,
and will often be separated from your belongings. Bring your phone and be done with it.
Anything illegal to possess or partake in like drugs, alcohol, cigarettes etc.
More stuff than you need. You will be four to a room and very busy this weekend. Extra stuff
will just get in the way.
Clothing that would be inappropriate for reasons of fit, exposure, or graphics/words on them.
Again, you are still technically “at school” while on this field trip.
