Assistant Director of Health Professions Advising Career Services Virginia Tech The Assistant Director of Health Professions Advising (HPA) at Virginia Tech serves on the Health Professions Advising team in the Career Services office. Under the direction of the Director of Health Professions Advising, the person in this role contributes to developing and providing a broad range of services to support approximately 1000 undergraduates and alumni preparing for careers in the health profession and pursuing professional school admission in fields such as medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, physician assistant, nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, clinical laboratory science and veterinary medicine. The assistant director provides advice, programs, resources and events to assist students towards meeting their goals; and participates as a lead interviewer in Evaluation Committee interviews and writes committee letters. Required Qualifications: -Master’s degree in biological, life, or health sciences, higher education, counseling, or related field, and previous experience relevant to pre-health advising. -Excellent advising and organizational skills are necessary as well as analytical skills. -Effective interpersonal communication and ability to work cogently with a diverse student body, faculty from a variety of disciplines, and related external organizations. -Demonstrated understanding of professional skills necessary to succeed in a student interview for admissions. Excellent written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast paced environment. Preferred Qualifications: -Experience with academic and/or career advising and familiarity with health-related fields as well as knowledge of trends in medical/health professional schools admissions.
