Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Particle Physics Experiment Group https://www.vacancies.ed.ac.uk/ (use reference 035048) Applications are invited for a Research Associate position to focus on detector simulation and performance studies for the final design of the upgraded ATLAS tracking detector. You will be expected to take a leading role in characterising & improving the geometric layout and optimal performance of physics algorithms, to maximise the physics reach of the ATLAS upgrade. To achieve these studies we will use the fast and full simulation chains within the ATLAS software framework with which we have strong expertise. You will also be able to contribute to one of our physics analysis activities. The University of Edinburgh has significant involvement in the ATLAS experiment. The group has made substantial contributions to the Higgs boson discovery, measurement of its properties in several channels, including ongoing projections for future analyses, and has a strong involvement in searches for beyond the Standard Model particles. In support of this we work on detector simulation, silicon pixel detector development, trigger & data acquisition, data and storage management, future computing software & technology. The group participates in the development and production of the Forward Pixel Detector of the Phase-II Upgrade of the Inner Tracking detector (ITk) in the areas of pixel disk services, front-end chip testing and module production. These activities are led by Prof. Phil Clark, Dr. Stephan Eisenhardt, Dr. Christos Leonidopoulos and Dr. Victoria Martin. Fixed term for 3 years Please apply online below by the closing date of 18 January 2016 at 5pm (GMT) and arrange for 3 letters of recommendation to be sent to gill.maddy@ed.ac.uk by 18 January 2016 at the latest. Please contact Prof Philip Clark (P.J.Clark@ed.ac.uk) for further information.
