Le Regard Sonore and Tooncan Productions Inc. FUNNY ANIMALS 26 x 2’30’’ ANIMATED FILMS IN 2D/3D Intention Note Like all the children in the world, mine regularly ask me to sing songs in which animals are sovereign. We quickly come to the point where we keep repeating again and again the same nursery rhymes. We go a bit round in circles and the kids start to get tired of it… I wanted something a little something a little different and a little more in the mood of our days… so I improvised … after all, this is my job, in a way… So I told stories with funny and most cranky animals… telling simple stories, while trying in the same time to make them learn some things about each animal, each story would form the subject of a song… I also wanted to give them the taste of simple melodies full of joy. Distract them while stimulating their intelligence, as a matter of a fact; this is what guides my life since a long time as a musician or as a project author. To make the magic occur, I had to compose with a team that would be in a position to understand the spirit of my project. Danièle Compère was the first one : with a sure gift for writing and composing children’s nursery rhymes, she was willing to compose a few songs about specific animals (hippopotamus, giraffe, elephant…). The result was exactly what I was looking for. The only thing left was to give them life, find them a identity, a coherence… It’s with the help of Sonia Grandame and Joachim Hérissé that I’ve found the best understanding. They have a great sensitivity and a sure gift they were able to show me through a few graphical displays. Since then, I have had the conviction that these stories, these nursery rhymes, could have an effect and enthral children. Lively tunes, funny stories, animals a bit crazy… a most likeable cocktail. Emmanuelle Reys Concept Simple and universal. Since ever, children learn songs, and, since ever, these present animals : friendly, mean, cunning, not sly… The children listen, laugh and fall asleep with pictures of savannah, in which they imagine lions that flight, giraffes that row on the Nile, armies of lemurs coming to give them a hug. At this age, animals have for only border the children’s imagination. So observe the hippo in a beauty salon has really nothing astonishing, not more than look at the baboons swinging in the air … Watch and listen the nursery rhymes of Funny Animals it’s like to project yourself in a universe where animals allow themselves to play with children’s imagination. The songs written and composed by Danièle Compère are vivacious, very funny, and are very easy to memorise. The melody keeps running through your head and makes us all be in a very good mood. Funny animals is a real cure to monotonous days… This is the reason why we thought that this program, in the first place conceived for the tiny tots, could perfectly be appreciated by children a bit older. Actually, this particularly funny and entertaining cartoon will all make us swing on lively tunes… To sum up, Funny Animals, it’s the educative video to play in the kid’s Top 50 !
