Teaching Online Script
Hi, I’m Lorah Gough, Director of Distance Education.
The term Distance Education can mean many things. At HCC, it is a type of
class that is accessed via the web and a department that provides services to
students and faculty.
Students often ask if HCC online classes are 100% online. The answer is “not
necessarily.” Some classes may require on-campus labs or proctored exams,
but at least 85% of the course must be online according to the state guidelines.
To teach online classes faculty need to take five training classes and complete a
DE application form. The required training courses are: Eagle Online, Orientation
to DE, Copyright Literacy, Learner-centered Instructional Design, and one
elective. The courses are all online and available 24 x 7. The DE application form
is available on the DE website and the link to the training is also there.
For students, the DE Department offers many services including online
pre-enrollment sessions, online advising and counseling, online orientations, and
the Eagle Online support center.
For faculty, the DE Department helps set up courses in Eagle Online, organizes
proctored exams, and offers technical assistance via phone or email.
To learn more, visit the DE website which is linked on this page.
