Course Description:
EFL 129 is a first semester Advanced Academic English course for students at the Faculty of Communication
and Media Studies. The purpose of the course is to develop students’ writing, reading, speaking and listening
skills in an academic setting and to improve their study skills.
Textbook: Waters, M. & Waters, A. (1998). Study Tasks in English. Cambridge University Press.
An English to English dictionary; a notebook to be used in class.

Attendance:
In order to achieve a passing grade students are expected to attend classes and to complete all necessary tasks
and assignments. It is a requirement of the SFL that all students must attend a minimum of 80% of classes.
The SFL keeps in close contact with Faculties and Schools in this regard.
Plagiarism:
This is intentionally failing to give credit to sources used in writing, regardless of whether they are published or
unpublished. Plagiarism is a disciplinary issue and will be dealt with accordingly.
Make-up Exams:
With the permission of the Rector’s office (Student Affairs) make-up exams for EFL courses (mid-term and final
exams) will be administered immediately after the final exams.
