Among packaged beverages such as soda and juice, bottled water has the lightest environmental impact. o Nestlé Waters operates nine U.S. Green Building Council LEED‐certified plants – the most of any U.S. food and beverage company. We strive to maximize benefits to the local community and create lasting partnerships. o Nestlé Waters hires local contractors and businesses whenever possible. For a $4 million construction project in Fryeburg, Maine, the company awarded over 90% of contracts to local contractors. o With a commitment of $3 million, Nestlé Waters supports Keep America Beautiful and its projects to improve plastic recycling rates in the U.S. In 2009, the company granted funds for “Recycling on the Go” to 12 communities with innovative recycling programs. o When disaster strikes, Nestlé Waters donates millions of bottles of water to local communities temporarily in need of safe drinking water. The company partners with AmeriCares and the American Red Cross, as well as many local fire and rescue companies. o The company encourages community participation in the permitting and approval processes for water use and plant construction. Additionally, the company shares environmental evaluation data with local communities so residents can make informed decisions about their water resources.
