Purpose – The purpose of this project is for you to become more familiar with the parts of the cell and their function.

Task – You are to make a rap. Your rap must include the organelles listed below. For each organelle you have to mention its function and its structure in your rap . You have to use at least 12 different organelles . You and your partner will be given class time to write your rap. Once your rap has been written, you will record your rap and add your own beat to go with it!

Here are the organelles you may chose from:

Nucleus

Nuclear membrane

 Nuclear pores

 Chromosomes

 Nucleolus

Cell membrane

Cytoplasm

Mitochondria

Lysosomes

 Smooth endoplasmic reticulum

 Rough endoplasmic reticulum

 Golgi apparatus

 Cell wall (plants only)

Grading –You will be graded based on the following rubric. This is a SUMMATIVE grade!

Make sure that you take your time, everything is audible, and just let the lyrics flow – yo!!

How to complete this task?

CLASS 1

1.

Choose the 12 organelles you want to include in your rap.

2.

Log on to Google Docs. If you don’t know how, ask for help.

3.

Insert a table on Google Docs. The table must be 13 by 3. Going across the 3 rows at the top, label the first one ORGANELLES, the second one

FUNCTIONS and the last one STRUCTURE.

4.

Under the organelles column, list the 12 organelles you will be using.

5.

Under the function column, list the function of each organelle. THIS IS THE

FUNCTION YOU WILL BE INCLUDING IN YOUR RAP!

6.

Under the structure column, explain briefly the unique structure of that organelle. THIS IS THE STRUCTURE THAT YOU WILL BE INCLUDING IN

YOUR RAP!

7.

CLASS 2

1.

Log back on to Google Docs. Pull up your document from yesterday.

2.

Insert a new page.

3.

You are now to write the lyrics of your rap.

4.

You need to include the information from the table you made yesterday.

5.

All 12 organelles should be mentioned along with their structure and function

6.

There are many great and appropriate websites that can help you find rhyming words.

CLASS 3

1.

You need to meet with your teacher and have your lyrics approved.

2.

Fix any lyrics that need to be fixed.

3.

Find a good beat to use as your background on iMovie from garage band or design your own.

4.

Go to iMovie and record your rap with the beat form garageband playing in the background.

OR

5.

Record your rap in garageband. If you do it this way, you need to also add in pictures of cells, organelles or whatever is appropriate.

CLASS 4

1.

Finish recording your rap.

2.

Edit your rap.

3.

Place it in the dropbox with the teachers’ help.
