THE INTEGRATION OF CHARACTER EDUCATION ON HIGH SCHOOL’S SUBJECT ASSISTED
WITH SCHOOL LABORATORY

ABSTRACT
Indonesian Curriculum conducts that character education is the responsibility of all subject teachers. Preparing lesson
plans generally teachers determined the item of character that consisted of more than 5 item characters on 2 –hours
lesson. In practice these characters are taught only as try and error. These characters are not measured in seriously. Now,
it is the time to implement the characters education in each subject with meaningful and measurable. Learning scenario is
on each learning subject in 2 hours lesson concentrate only one character. To select one character depend on the
characteristics of the learning subject and the characteristics of students. With the selection of appropriate learning
methods for a subject of teaching, this selected character will be integrated in process. The purpose of this study are 1) to
describe how to build the character for the students on a study, 2 ) to show that the built character gives positive influence
on the thoroughness of the cognitive outcomes of teaching materials. In order to accelerate the achievement of learning
objectives School laboratory is created, namely a miniature form of instructional media abstraction real situation in the
field relevant to teaching materials. Research tested on several subjects: mathematics, physics, skill, and Civics.
The results showed 1 ) Suryani/Sukestiyarno , 2012 implement the learning method (LM) CTL with School laboratory on
the subject reflection in physics, managed to form the critical and creative character, 2) Subekti/Sukestiyarno, 2012
implement LM STAD integrated with E-Learning in subject trigonometry mathematics succeeded in forming the hard
work character, 3) Isnaeni/Supartono, 2013 implement the LM PBL itegrated with Lab School in subject organize fruit in
Skill succeeded in forming the entrepreneurship spirit, 4) Lusiana/Lestari , 2013 implement the LM CIRC in subject
learning laws in Civics succeeded in forming the honesty character. From these findings explain that only one character is
seriously measured and give the problem solving to the students accelerate succeed in forming character. Learning
methods and instructional media strongly supports the establishment. The built character has a positive effect on
achievement test of the subjects.
Keywords: character education, integration, School
values , and the values of the integration into the
behavior of students daily through the learning process,
which takes place both inside and outside the classroom
on all subjects. For high school students is an unstable
person in the act. Drastic changes can occur either from
the negative to the positive or even vice versa.
Therefore, they are very necessary guidance,
mentoring is ultimately the faith. They need to be
prepared to live in the community or further studies are
programmed.
On the basis of the demands of the law above,
that character education is the responsibility of every
teacher. Intended teachers can integrate character
education into their subjects. Actually, teachers are

Quality of human resources today must be able
to reflect the high quality, in the sense that it is able to
implement an innovative program development, creative,
productive and high work ethic. With the decline of Law
UU No 20 of year 2003 the concept of character
education that gets attention. Character education is the
foundation. It means to achieve the goal of education
should be programmed such that achievement through
character education as well. Character education
integrated in the learning is the introduction of values,
awareness of the importance of facilitation obtained

implementing character education in learning. They
prepare lesson plans complete with an additional goal
with 5 or more characters to be achieved in each lesson
plan. Researchers in the field based on observations in
several high schools showed that teachers in preparing
lesson plan on the subjects in question , they integrate
character education in it. Their designs on each face
within 2 hours of lessons they integrate character more
than 5 items. In practice, in the class character of the item
number programmed just an ornament alone. Intended,
they learn character education simply as a routine
performed daily. They considered sufficient if the goal is
only to the achievement of religiosity character begins
and closes with the opening prayer; characters simply by
handing over the responsibility of homework tasks are
ordered teachers; characters of hard work just to get in
the class is not too late, want to do their own homework;
characters in love environment not only interfere with
their friends. These characters are not measured the grain
achieving intensively. Consequently, learning for
character education is not able to change the behavior of
students as desired grain character.
In teaching character education by Koesoema
(2007 ) there are a variety of ways through school
programs or through integrated learning with extra
curricular and also through learning by each teacher.
This study only deals with the integrated character
education subjects. The purpose of this study is 1) to
describe how the formation of character in high school
students are integrated with each subject with the help of
laboratory School, 2 ) showed that the formation of
character gives positive influence on the thoroughness of
the cognitive outcomes of teaching materials.
The idea came from the successful program
School Kidzania in Jakarta. Kidzania Jakarta is a kind of
edutainment theme park located in Pacific Place, Jakarta
Selatan, Indonesia. By the way learners learn through
miniature will help students easily grasp the concept.
Because the study population are high school students
who've grown so named teeneger - Zania (abbreviated
School). Laboratory School packaged as a miniature
form of abstraction adapted to the situation on the basis
of competence or learning model is applied to learning.
Learners are expected to capture the abstract concepts
through the miniature can be more easily and quickly
becoming the way of doing transactions incident , treated
as props or mockups , or by the connection between the
real situation with the miniature.
Individual good character or superior is
someone who tried to do the best things to God
Almighty, himself, others, the environment, the people
and the country as well as internationally in general by
optimizing the potential (knowledge) itself and
accompanied by consciousness, emotion and motivation
(feelings). Under the Law UU No. 20 of the year 2003
character values include: dealing with God (1. religious),
dealing with yourself ( 2. honest 3.responsibility, 4.
healthy life style. 5. Discipline 6. Hard work 7. Believe

The character
education in learning is not a stand-alone subject, but the
character grains fought born on self-learners stick to
learning a subject. This research learning designs
character education in every face-to- face only

much more. Choice of characters that are closer to the
above indicator is dependent on the teacher's own choice.
Concentrate on one grain character with consideration for
future implementation easier to get achievement in the

Measurement of achievement character is done through
observations with lower indicators observations on the
targeted character. The indicator is made of assessment

accelerate the achievement of learning objectives that
have been developed in the laboratory School made
lesson plans, which make miniatures that are relevant to
the material he taught.

give positive influence on the thoroughness of cognitive
achievement the subject mater. The idea of thinking

entrepreneurial spirit character for learners. Then the idea

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
METHODS

Learning
character
education
is
the
responsibility of every teacher in lesson which is needed
special attention . It is not appropriate if the teacher
meets the demands of law and teacher origin taped only.
Here teachers are required to give equal attention to
teaching materials which he held. This means that in any
face-to -face needs to show items which character is shot,
and the grain is really measured the extent to which
objectives have been achieved in the form of a real
change in behavior.
The results have proved the success of the
character through the integration of grain shape on each
subject School assisted laboratory. It regards the option
of pretty one grain character only. The selection of items
tailored to the characteristics of the character of the
teaching materials and student characteristics. Problem
solving in a way does not give away the theme with
characters that are required in students. Problem solving
should be solved by the students by showing changes in

The research tools used in addition to the field of
learning is also implemented on learning that includes
character education. Here the method of research, the
development of devices with 4D Thiagarajan patterns in
example Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate. Starting
with product design and define a learning device for
testing the validity of the assessment by a team of
experts. Further develop the small group to try out the
practicality measured. In the end disseminate simply by
implementing device, packaged in an experiment to
measure the effectiveness of their learning. Learning
character education lesson is designed simultaneously
integrated with the parent. So the ongoing process of the
formation of character education and learning outcomes

character education is taken with the observation sheet.

Here increasingly clear why at every learning

character. With a small number of targeted programs will
be more concentrated and focused in making them. This

will undoubtedly form character education as mandated
by law. Moreover if programmed stages for each class
for each subject will help accelerate the achievement of
goals.
Limitations of this study lies in learning still
partial to every lesson. Therefore, these results have been
also still partially visible whereas character education
must be programmed intensify. On further research will
conduct research and if some lesson.
