It must encourage the child’s respect for human rights, as well as respect for their parents, their own and other cultures, and the environment. The children will also have the opportunity to develop their spoken language by presenting their research about different places to a small group orally. Towards the end of this half term, we will be reading Haiku poems and having a go at writing our own! Please continue to read regularly with your child. It really helps them to enjoy books and read with confidence. If you have any questions please come and ask. There is also some excellent guidance in the Home/School link book about how best to support your child with their reading according to the colour they are currently reading. In particular we will be focusing on consolidating addition and subtraction strategies and beginning to use partitioning as a way of making sense of our number system. We will also be learning about money and the value of different coins. You can support your child’s mathematical understanding by noticing and discussing numbers, measures and shapes in everyday activities such as cooking. Science As we journey around the world, the children will consider how and where everyday materials like rubber are produced.
