Resonance Practice Problems These practice problems were taken directly from my book, Organic Chemistry as a Second Language, by David Klein. I took pictures of the pages in the book and then made this document. A key will be coming shortly and will be posted to Moodle as a separate document. Instructions: For pages 2-3, the curved arrows have already been drawn for you. You must simply draw the resonance structure that results from this arrow-pushing. For pages 4-8, you have to draw the curved arrows. Then, you have to draw the resulting resonance structure(s). If you only see one resonance arrow (↔), then you only have to draw one structure. If you see two resonance arrows, then you have to draw two structures. For pages 9-13, the training wheels are off, and you have to figure out where to draw the curved arrows and how many resonance structures will result. So, draw all VALID resonance structures (see “Commandments”). You might also want to practice, here, identifying either the BEST or WORST (or both) resonance contributor.
