Milwaukee County’s General Mitchell International Airport Airport Control Center Operator Working on an assigned shift any day or night of the week, weekends, and holidays is required. Position is subject to emergency call-in. JOB DUTIES: Under general supervision; to assist in the control of daily operations of County owned Airports; to assist with ensuring compliance with Federal, State and local airport safety and security regulations; to transmit or cancel airfield notices; to disseminate airport operations information; to dispatch personnel according to established procedures during emergencies involving aircraft accidents, bomb threats, civil disturbance, air piracy, structural fires, radiological incidents, natural disasters, fire alarms and personal injuries; to monitor and operate security system; to monitor fire alarm system; to monitor the Surface System Computer for changes on runway surface conditions; to monitor and retrieve weather information from the Weather Center computer; to receive runway friction readings; to update airport identification access badges and vehicle access; to transmit and receive information over four different radio frequencies; to maintain daily work log; to assist in moving objects such as baggage, barricades, sand bags or construction debris; to input and retrieve information on a local area network computer; to evaluate, correct or call for service for problems with elevators, moving walkways, and doors; to provide airport escorts and tours; to provide training to employees on airport operations; to initialize the Airports Emergency Notification System; to collect money for vehicle towing and miscellaneous airport charges; track flights for billing purposes; assist in coordinating snow removal activities; coordinate activities for irregular operations; to coordinate activities at the International Arrivals Building (IAB) during charters and to perform such other duties as may be assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience at a commercial service (FAR Part 139) airport working for an airline or airport operator required which must have included experience issuing airfield notices, dispatching personnel, and/or monitoring computerized systems. NOTE: A bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university in Aviation Administration may substitute for the required experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 139 and 49 CFR Part 1542; knowledge of airport operations practices, and procedures; knowledge of applicable Federal Aviation Administration and Transportation and Security Administration rules and regulations; knowledge of computer operations and applications; oral and written communication skills; decision making skills; organizational skills; skill in the operation of personal computer; data entry skills; analytical ability; ability to respond to emergencies; ability to lift and/or push 50 lbs.; ability to establish working relationships with tenants, users, patrons, employees, and the public; and ability to work effectively and harmoniously with others. EDUCATION: Possession of a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required. Possession of valid driver’s license is required at time of appointment and maintained during incumbency. Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an approved college or university in Aviation Management, Public Administration, Business Administration or Emergency Management is preferred. AAAE or ACI certification is preferred. Possession of a pilot’s license is preferred. NOTE: Appointee must acquire a Class II Airport driver’s endorsement and maintain during incumbency. Appointee must acquire appropriate security clearance in accordance with the Transportation Security Administration guidelines and regulations and maintained during incumbency.
