JOB DESCRIPTION FOR NORTHWEST ARKANSAS REGIONAL AIRPORT AUTHORITY March 6, 2013 JOB TITLE: Full-time Communications Center Operator REPORTS TO: Public Safety Director DEPARTMENT: Operations JOB PURPOSE: Monitor the Airport’s Communication Center ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1. Monitor security checkpoint duress alarm and dispatch Law Enforcement Officer if needed. 2. Monitors and maintains the TSAR 1542 Access Control System to include: a. b. c. d. e. Acknowledge alarms Dispatch Law Enforcement Officers Make calls for service when needed Maintain required records and logs Monitor CCTV; maintain audio and video recording equipment 3. Take telephone/radio requests from Airport tenants/employees for service requests 4. Maintain communication logs 5. Answer Airport telephone lines when transferred to the Communications Center 6. Exercise strict confidentiality of information involving all Airport matters 7. Monitors fire alarm device for terminal building 8. Perform other duties as requested REQUIREMENTS: KNOWLEDGE - Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by previous experience with telephone or radio communications operations; or equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the following knowledge, abilities and skills: Knowledge of and skill in the operations of telephone, radio, and alarm communications equipment. Ability to learn the operation of computer terminals and related information systems equipment. Ability to learn the practices, procedures and requirements of public safety communications work Ability to learn the geography of the Airport, including location of runways, taxiways, aprons, streets, important buildings, or areas requiring professional police and/or fire protection services Ability to think and act quickly and appropriately in emergencies and highly stressful situations Ability to elicit important information from callers who may be upset or very emotional Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports Ability to work in an environment with some stress and frequent interruptions Ability to type accurately at a reasonable rate of speed SECURITY - Requires the ability to pass a criminal history background check MENTAL - Requires normal attention PHYSICAL - Requires standing approximately 5%, sitting approximately 90%, occasional lifting of paper and files weighing up to 20 lbs. approximately 1% of the time. ENVIRONMENTAL - Requires capability of performing essential job functions in and office environment MANUAL DEXTERITY - Requires using hands, arms and/or feet for performing essential job functions such as operating computer hardware and software, typewriter, and related office equipment. Candidate must have a valid Arkansas driver’s license or ability to attain one. AUDIBLE - Requires ability to understand and follow oral instructions and the ability to communicate via radio and telephone VISUAL - Requires the ability to read written material, computer screens and operate office equipment
