Beethoven’s Ninth is the composer’s final complete symphony and considered by many to be among his greatest works, some even consider it to be one of the greatest pieces of music ever written. It is the first example of a major composer using voices in a symphony. The words sung in the final movement are based on a poem written by Friedrich Schiller entitled “Ode to Joy”— giving the concert its name. The overall tone of the work is one of happiness and promises to leave audiences feeling uplifted and joyful.

The Symphony’s Executive Director, Mary Koeninger, invites the community to attend, saying,

“This is a concert that you will not want to miss. The power and beauty of Beethoven’s Ninth

Symphony is incredible. In addition, the opportunity to hear the Brazos Valley’s own Sasha

Cooke is a wonderful treat. This will be her first performance in Bryan/College Station since she won the Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording last year. ”

In honor of Veteran’s Day in November, the Brazos Valley Symphony invites Veterans and their families to attend the “Ode to Joy” concert at a $10 discount for adults. Veterans may ask for this discount when ordering tickets by phone or in person at the box office. Also, any active military and their families are invited to attend this concert for free.
