Prepare for university

FOLLOW THE PATHWAY ON TO FURTHER STUDY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, SYDNEY (UTS)

You will study at the level which matches your current English language ability. Throughout levels 1-5 you will study key themes that incorporate various interesting topics. After completing the appropriate English level you can gain direct entry into UTS

Foundation Studies, UTS:INSEARCH diplomas or UTS degree programs without the need to sit another English exam. Please refer to the diagram below for more details about our pathways.

Entry level depends on your IELTS, PTE (Academic) or TOEFL test results or our Placement Test. If you do not have a current IELTS, TOEFL or PTE score (no older than 12 months), you will need to sit a placement test which can be done online at one of our Authorised Education Representative Offices around the world. Successful completion of AE5 satisfies the English Language Admission requirements for most UTS

GENERAL ENGLISH

Our General English program will give you a practical understanding of basic listening and speaking skills, developing the expertise required to move on to academic study. The General English Program is delivered in five week terms.

Who should consider this course?

It is recommended for students who want to develop their broad communication skills and become more confident using English in everyday situations.

IELTS PREPARATION

This program will thoroughly prepare you with strategies and skills required for the IELTS test. You will learn how to tackle the tasks in the listening, reading, writing, and speaking modules of the IELTS test. In addition you will learn to:

• Deal with difficult tasks

• Have the opportunity to practice all modules of the test

• Get to know the format and procedure of the IELTS test

• Gain confidence in taking the test

Leader in English language teaching and training

MEET DAVID LARBALESTIER, DIRECTOR OF STUDIES,

ENGLISH PROGRAMS

David oversees the delivery of all English language programs at UTS:INSEARCH and has over 30 years teaching experience from the United Kingdom, China and Australia.

David joined UTS:INSEARCH in 1996 initially working in China at the Sydney Institute of Language and

Commerce (SILC), a joint venture with Shanghai University.

David is the co-author of some major online publications and television programs including Study English:

IELTS Preparation and Passport to English. He also co-authored the UTS:INSEARCH IELTS Preparation course books and is one of many UTS:INSEARCH teachers who are Cambridge University-accredited

CELTA teacher trainers.

In his current position at UTS:INSEARCH in Sydney, David is Director of Studies, English Programs and also

President of the University English Centres Australia (UECA).
