COURSE DESCRIPTION
COURSE DESCRIPTION CONT’D
NCAPS Global Business and Entrepreneurship course is designed for
students that are interested in an ever-changing world, where business
and marketing decisions must adapt to the global economy, many times
resulting in global expansion of the business. Students partner with local,
regional, national and international businesses to produce marketing plans,
advertising and promotional plans, customer research, social media plans,
event management, and strategic plans. Students will be introduced to
domestic and global business operations, economic and cultural factors,
political systems, and a survey of marketing within the global economy.
Students will have an opportunity to experience entrepreneurship from a variety of
angles including traditional business plans for consumable products and services
to new methodologies such as “lean start-up” most commonly associated with
technology based products. Strategic management tools such as the Business
Model Canvas will be implemented as the students develop and sketch out
new or existing business models. Participation in local entrepreneurial events
such as MECA Challenge and Make48 are encouraged. Be prepared to use your
entrepreneurial skills to develop a domestic business with the intention to take it
global.
Founders, owners, entrepreneurs, leaders of major corporations, small
business, and startups in the local community will share their experience

sponsoring internships. Students will be able to communicate with expert

PROJECT EXAMPLES
• Partner with Clay County Economic Development Council in gathering and
analyzing data based on individual surveys of over 100 companies. Students
created call lists, made cold-calls and administered the surveys. Students
developed individual executive summaries and presented to each city in the
county.
• Partner with St. Luke’s North Hospital to develop a marketing plan to help
promote the Mid America Heart Institute’s Athletic Heart Clinic’s screenings.
• Partner with North Kansas City Business Council to create a presentation for
the yearly Recognition Luncheon as well as the written program provided to all
attendees. Required research of businesses to be recognized, securing photos
of the businesses, and writing biographies on the key employees.
• Partner with MKS Pipe and Valve Company to populate and implement a
customer relationship management (CRM) system. Students used company’s
software to organize client’s customer’s information, populating the fields, and
testing the program. Once completed the students trained the client’s sales and
support staff on how to use the system.
• Partner with local start-up company to determine profitability while
investigating new product development. During the course of the project
students were also requested to create a social media marketing plan with the
goal of raising $30,000 in 30 days.
