Accounting I Course Overview and Syllabus Coach McClanahan – Room N201 – 281.634.5428 James.mcclanahan@fortbendisd.com Course Overview In this class students will investigate the field of accounting, including how it is impacted by industry standards as well as economic, financial, technological, international, social, legal, and ethical factors. Students reflect on this knowledge as they record, classify, summarize, analyze, and communicate accounting information. Students formulate and interpret financial management information. Working papers will be provided. Grading Procedure Each 9 weeks grading period will consist of a minimum of 14 graded items according to FBISD board policy. At least 11 Minor Grades: Daily work, class work, homework, quizzes, etc. At least 3 Major Grades: Exams, projects, etc. Retesting will be made available for students scoring less than 75% on a major exam. Students must attend a tutorial session or complete other approved remediation activities prior to retaking the exam. The maximum score that may be earned on a retest is 75%. Students must complete remediation before retesting. The retest must be completed within 5 days of the original test. Minor Grade Late Work Policy Students will be informed of specific time lines and due dates for assignments. Work is to be handed in on the day it is due. Work that is one day late will receive a maximum score of 75, two days a maximum of 50. Work that is more than 2 days late will receive a grade of 0. Students are responsible for obtaining materials and instructions for missed work when they return to class after an absence. Conference/Extra Help Students may make arrangements to come in for tutoring or makeup work before or after school. There is no set tutorial time. Tutorials are by appointment only.
