PENNSAUKEN TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS BOARD OF EDUCATION SPECIAL BUDGET MEETING MINUTES SATURDAY, MARCH 6, 2010 9:00 A.M. PENNSAUKEN ADMINISTRATION BUILDING 1695 HYLTON ROAD CALL TO ORDER Advanced written notice of this meeting of the Pennsauken Township Board of Education was sent to the Courier Post and Philadelphia Inquirer. Notice appeared in the legal notice section of the Courier Post stating the time, date, location and that formal action would be taken at that time. Notice was also posted with the Township Clerk. Mr. Carey as President, declared this to be a legal meeting of the Board of Education. ROLL CALL Those in attendance and answering roll call were Mr. Kofoet, Mr. McDevitt, Mrs. Muller, Mr. Nguyen, Mr. O’Brien, Mr. Carey. Mr. Dobson and Mr. Brown gave prior notice they would be absent. Mr. Silver was absent. Also in attendance were Dr. Chapman Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Yacovelli Business Administrator/Board Secretary.. Review agenda items 2010-2011 BUDGET DISCUSSION o Review of budget and budget workpapers. o Discussion followed REPORT OF THE SCHOOL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATOR A motion was made by Mr. McDevitt and seconded by Mr. Kofoet to approve agenda items for School Business Administrator and Superintendent #1 through #8. The motion was approved by a roll call vote (6-0-0). 1. WHEREAS advertised bids were received, opened and read on February 17, 2010 for the purpose of providing STUDENT TRANSPORTATION to Athletic Events for Spring Sports for the Pennsauken School District for the 2009-2010 school year and WHEREAS the vendors listed below are the responsible bidders, submitting the lowest prices in conformance with the specifications, IFB#2010-034 COMPANY Holcomb Bus ADDRESS Bellmawr, NJ ROUTE # # 75 Rts. BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Education of the Township of Pennsauken to appoint Melissa Silver to a position of Long-Term Substitute Teacher of English assigned to Pennsauken High School effective March 1, 2010 to April 30, 2010. A letter of intent to employ was issued by the Superintendent of Schools on February 24,2010. Ms. Silver will earn $100 per diem without benefits. Note: If approved, Ms. Silver replaces Peter Colangelo. Interviews were conducted by Principal Vinson and Supervisor Joyce. References were checked by Mr. Vinson. 4. BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Education of the Township of Pennsauken to appoint Kim Lawson to the position of 10-month Bus Driver for not less than 20 hours per week in the Transportation Department effective March 8, 2009 to June 30, 2010. Ms. Lawson possess a valid CDL Class B with Passenger and School Bus endorsements. Ms. Lawson is currently employed as a 10-month bus aide. Ms. Lawson will earn $8,326 ($11.50 per hour). The terms and conditions of employment as per the agreement with the Pennsauken Support Staff Association. The residency policy is in effect for this position. BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Education of the Township of Pennsauken to approve the following Pennsauken teachers to serve as substitute coordinators for the Twilight 2:30-6:30 p.m. program at Phifer Middle School. BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Education of the Township of Pennsauken to appoint Erika Lombardo to a position of Long-Term Substitute Teacher assigned to Booker T. Washington School effective February 16, 2010 to March 12, 2010. Ms. Lombardo will earn $100 per diem without benefits. Note: If approved, Ms. Lombardo replaces Colleen Davis who is on a leave of absence. PUBLIC COMMENT The Pennsauken Township Board of Education recognizes that the schools are the concern of all members of the community. With this in mind, the Board of Education welcomes and solicits input from the public. During the regular monthly Business Meeting, members of the community are afforded an opportunity to express their views. It does, however, respectfully suggest that citizens attempt to resolve concerns by speaking directly to school administrators before bringing it to the Board. Individuals with a relevant interest in the functions or duties of the Board are invited to speak a maximum of five (5) minutes on any one issue.
