EMERGING TRENDS IN ECONOMICS AND
MANAGEMENT SCIENCES (JETEMS)

EDITORIAL
JETEMS provides not just an opportunity for scholars to publish in order to meet the academic
requirement to publish or perish. It creates a space where scholars from the African Continent
and in particular Nigeria can engage their counterparts in the rest of the world in research
driven conversations and debate about
social and economic problems, and the various
approaches to understanding and solving them.
The inaugural editorial for the Journal of
Emerging Trends in Economics and management Sciences promised that as we advance in the
millennium that it will act as a vehicle that will ensure that management research will assume the
center piece in our endeavours to find innovative ways to create new knowledge and find
solutions to world problems. Previous issues have addressed a wide range of social and
economic issues in many countries and continents. The issues range from family planning in
Rawanda, to solving the problems
of corruption in the construction industry in Nigeria,
exchange rate volatility and trade in Mauritius; determination of share prices in India; corporate
culture and organization change; foreign direct investment and economic growth; models of best
financial practices, analysis of small financial institution, Sri Lanka; Economic and social
Assessment of poverty alleviation, Sri Lanka; the use of the Box-Cox transformation technique
in economic and statistical analysis; the impact of information and information technology in
education, Jordan; analyses of exchange rates, the measurement of demand elasticities for
gasoline, Mauritius; and analyses of foreign exchange markets and financial stability, but to
mention a few. While the research and articles published by JETEMS come from global sources,
JETEMS is currently indexed in DOAJ, WorldCat, ewJour, Open J-Gate, Scirus, Socolar, EISRJC, Expanded Academic ASAP, Cabell
Directories, Serial Solutions, Ulrich’s Web Global Serials Directory and Index Copernicus International, Educators Reference Complete,

the greatest proportion have been about social, political and economic trends in Africa, and
predominantly Nigeria.
JETEMS is a place where emerging world scholars meet and give voice to African, Asian and
international problems in a discourse that benefits from universally tested models, theories and
practices. The current Issue of JETEMS features a number of articles that reflect on Africa in
the world economy and offer critical analyses of the development and implementation of
monetary policy in Nigeria. It looks at the impact of globalization on economic growth, and
entrepreneurship as an effective strategy for the reduction of unemployment. On the micro level,
the issues address a number of issues relating to risk management, organizational culture and
performance. The Journal has become an independent instrument of policy review and criticism
of government and corporate action and practices. The articles are accessible and readable
without abandoning the rigor of quantitative analysis. JETEMS is on its way to doing what it
promised.
