CS 410/510 Data Streams - Microsoft StreamInsight Installation Instructions This document will guide you through the process of installing Microsoft StreamInsight in your personal computers. Note that the product and associated requirements are already installed in all MCECS Lab computers. Requirements Operating System Full product features require one of the following operating systems: Windows 7 Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 Windows Vista Service Pack 2 In class we will use the StreamInsight Event Flow Debugger, which does not run on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. .NET This product requires This component also requires Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. Observable support depends on the Microsoft .NET Framework 4. To determine which version of the Microsoft .NET Framework you have installed, you may go here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/kb00318785.aspx Development Environment For the second StreamInsight assignment and StreamInsight projects, we will be using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 as a development platform. If you are an MCECS student, you can obtain a personal license via MSDNaa. For more information, visit: http://www.cat.pdx.edu/software/microsoft-developers-network-academic-alliance-software.html You may also obtain a license through Microsoft Dreamspark: https://www.dreamspark.com/ Page 1 of 3 Version For winter term, we will be using the “Microsoft SQL Server 2008 StreamInsight 1.2”, which is available here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26720 Choose either the 32-bit or 64-bit version, depending on the operating system version you have installed: StreamInsight_x64.msi (64-bit Operating Systems) StreamInsight_x86.msi (32-bit Operating Systems) To determine whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bits in Windows Vista or Windows 7, click the start button, right click on “computer”, and select properties. The information is displayed under “System Type”, as in Figure 1. Figure 1. System properties in Windows 7. The operating system type is 32-bit. Page 2 of 3 Samples Stream Insight Samples are available here. Download the samples and unzip the contents of the StreamInsightProductTeamSamples.z ip file. The sample applications run in in Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. Use build and debug as shown in Figures 2 and 3 to compile and execute the projects. Figure 2. Some of C# ‘s features, such as LINQ (Language-Integrated Query) may be new to you.
