Ignite the Dream - MLK Day Event
D
Monday, January 19
11am-1pm
r. Martin Luther King Jr. took a courageous stand for unity and
equality for all people. Following the non-violent teachings of
Gandhi, his example of peaceful demonstrations made a powerful
impact on the fight for civil rights. Join us as we celebrate Dr. Martin
Luther King Day. Visitors will enjoy making crafts to commemorate the
day, decorating squares of hope to be added to our ever growing peace
quilt. Be sure to add your hand print to the hands of hope graffiti wall on
display. Don't miss the spectacular neon light puppet show presented by
the puppet ministry of Kirby Woods Baptist Church, the "I Have a Dream"
speech from Matthew Kelley of Kate Bond Elem. School, and stories of the struggle by local theatre students from the
University of Memphis and other local artists. It's more than a celebration of fun; it's a celebration with meaning and
purpose. Letters will be on exhibit from our Dear Dr. King - Kid's Dream Project received from area students in the
Memphis and surrounding area schools. You surely do not want to miss the commemorative march of peace and happy
birthday Dr. King cupcakes. This will be a celebration fit for a king.
Winter Fantasy Tea
Saturday, January 24, 12-1pm
It's a Winter Fantasy Tea at CMOM where all of your dreams can
come true! Be sure to arrive before the clock strikes 12 and wear
your fairy tale best and glass slippers. Get out of the cold and "let
it go" as you sip on tea and nibble on pastries with three of your
favorite princesses. Be sure to bring your autograph books for
when you meet the special guests and pose for photos. Make a
crown of jewels that shines and your very own snowman craft to
take home. Costumes and formal dresses are encouraged, kissing
frogs is optional. The first 50 children registered will receive a
special rhinestone tiara. Members are $15 and non-members are
$25. Advance reservations are required. Please register online at
CMOM.COM or call 901-458-2678.
Black History Celebration
Saturday, February 21, 1-3pm
We’re remembering the influences that African Americans have
made to our country through contributions in literature, science,
sports and politics. Join us for a special celebration as we explore
the journey and legacy of African Americans from slavery to
modern day visionaries with poetry and literary readings of
famous writers like Langston Hughes, Maya Angelou and Ralph
Ellison. Listen to old negro spirituals and songs of the civil rights
movement sung by local artists accompanied by African drummers. Also, enjoy making the African counting
game Mancala, playing African American Heroes trivia and creating an African style Tongue Rattle to play with the
drummers. Don’t miss this opportunity. We look forward to seeing you here.

"That's a Wrap" - Special Events at CMOM!
The Holidays at CMOM always bring a flurry of activity! Children and families enjoyed visiting with Santa, the Gingerbread
Man and the Grinch at the Red Carpet Christmas. Playhouse on the Square treated visitors to an excerpt from Peter Pan and
the Collierville Arts Academy performed dances from the Nutcracker!
It was a Ninja New Year's at Noon to celebrate 2015! Special guests included the Ninja Turtles and the Pink Power Ranger.
Visitors dressed as their favorite Ninja and counted down to noon with a balloon drop and goodie toss. Then, everyone enjoyed
the dance party celebration!
