Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition Job Title: Project Director (MIYCN) , Indonesia Classification: Manager Reports: 2 (50% each) Work Locations Jakarta, Indonesia Travel Required: Up to 50 % Description Organization and Overall Purpose: The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is driven by the vision of a world without malnutrition. GAIN is a Swiss based international organization that mobilizes public-private partnerships and provides financial and technical support to deliver nutritious foods to those people most at risk of malnutrition. The organization is delivering improved nutrition to an estimated 670 million people in more than 30 countries, half of whom are women and children. Nutrition products are as varied as fortified cooking oil and iodized salt in Indonesia, flour in Africa, soy sauce in China and biscuits in India, as well as specialized products for infant and young child nutrition, and interventions to protect the most vulnerable affected by emergencies or chronic illness. GAIN Indonesia works closely with the Ministry of Health and stakeholders in government, academia, private sector and civil society, some of whom are grant recipients. A new 4 year investment funded by the Dutch Government for GAIN’s Nutritious Foods for Children and Mothers Initiative for a Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)project in East Java. The project goal is to demonstrate an increased impact on stunting and micronutrient deficiencies by addressing multiple causes of malnutrition among pregnant women and children under two years. The project integrates nutrition-specific activities such as improving infant feeding practices, infant and maternal care practices and creating demand for fortified MIYCN products along with nutrition-sensitive interventions such as hygiene (e.g. hand-washing with soap), strengthening health and nutrition services at the community level. It will be implemented at the district level by multiple executing agencies that will be responsible for different interventions. The project includes a market based approach which includes working with Code Compliant private sector partners to increase access to affordable and nutritious foods for pregnant and lactating mothers and children 6-24 months. Purpose: The Project Director will report to the Country Director. S/he will ensure that the interventions by the different executing agencies are coordinated so that overall project milestones and goals are met. S/he will be expected to provide technical support on as required. The Project Director will also be expected to advice GAIN’s country office on strategic issues that will contribute to the implementation of the MIYCN country level strategy. This will include working with all levels of government, civil society, private sector and academia to facilitate a supportive stakeholder and policy environment and contributing to or organizing technical gatherings to raise our profile. 1 Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition Responsibilities: Project Management Plays a catalytic role in the implementation of the MIYCN project by fostering strong collaboration with implementing agencies. Accountable for the overall MIYCN project management and timely delivery of the milestones, , reporting and responsibility for technical and financial documentation for all GAIN, donor and Government of Indonesia requirements. Collaborates with the Country Director, Initiative Director and Portfolio Management and Delivery team on program strategy, communications and implementation of all project components including effective performance management of sub-contractors and technical consultants. Responsible for timely convening, facilitation and associated documentation of the project governance teams, providing guidance and strategic recommendations on the project. Responsible for identification and drafting of Terms of Reference for planned and ad hoc requests for technical assistance. Ensure timely flow of project-related information between project partners, Country Manager and GAIN Directors as is relevant to successful project implementation and the good standing of GAIN’s brand and Country Office. Collaborates with Monitoring, Learning and Research (MLR) team to develop a framework to closely monitor program impact and successful implementation of the research to populate the learning agenda. Visits the field monthly to ensure that project progress is on track and to design and implement risk mitigation plans if required. Demand Creation and Delivery Contribute to the process of development of a public service message together with research teams, GAIN and a communications agency. Accountable for stakeholder alignment on the social marketing strategies and communication materials developed by communication agency Responsible for coordinating between HQ and the communication agency for implementing the communications strategy and associated reporting. Work with selected Code Compliant industry partners to measure effectiveness of the communication strategy. Educate and influence key opinion leaders, medical professionals and Associations on the importance of increasing uptake of fortified foods by pregnant women and children 6-24 months. Policy and Advocacy / Stakeholder Management Collaborates with Country Director, GAIN Director’s and the Policy & Advocacy global team to mobilize civil society, private sector and community networks to align with the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) movement and the SUN Business Network (SBN) Represents GAIN at project review meetings with the government and donor, technical groups and seminars / conferences and facilitating alignment with key stakeholders. Contributes to the development of the knowledge base on GAIN’s portfolio, including the gathering of national and regional trends in MIYCN policies as they relate to nutrition. Computer literacy with good Excel, MS Word, Outlook, and Power Point skills. Experience: Minimum of fifteen years of experience including five years in international development, with an existing network in Indonesia. Demonstrated success in managing multi-disciplinary teams in time-bound programs. Strong understanding of public health required. Experience of delivering an integrated nutrition / MIYCN program highly desirable. Experience working in a public/private partnership environment desirable Private Sector experience desirable Education: A Master’s Degree or higher in nutrition, food science or a suitable equivalent is required. Diploma or equivalent certification in project management or business administration is highly desirable Other Requirements Indonesian citizen preferred.
