Student Loans Company Ltd (SLC)
SLC is a non profit making Government owned organisation set up in 1989
to provide loans and grant to students in institutions with HE provision
throughout the UK
We work with
Local Authorities in
Wales, the Student
Awards Agency for
Scotland, the
Education and
Library Boards in
Northern Ireland,
We pay loans and
non-repayable
grants for living
costs and studying
expenses and we
provide loans to
meet the costs of
tuition fees
We also collect
repayments from
customers no
longer in higher
education.

SLC - Paying and Collecting
The Student Loans Company:
• Pay loans and grants to students
• Pays tuition fees to Institutions with HE Provision
• Works with HM Revenue and Customs to collect loan repayments
• Makes maintenance payments to school pupils aged over 16 in
Northern Ireland and Wales
• Pays bursaries and scholarships on behalf of HE Providers
• Runs the administration and processing associated with bursaries and
scholarships, this includes NCTL training bursaries

NCTL Bursaries
• Eligibility & Payment
– Eligibility for an NCTL bursary is different to eligibility for entry to
ITT
– Trainee must be eligible for student support as defined by UKCISA,
– Trainee must not already hold QTS, or be eligible to apply for QTS
– Payment is made from NCTL to you as the provider, you then pass
the training bursary onto the trainee once you have assessed their
eligibility
– NCTL will advise of how much funding will be payable based on
your trainees and recruitment data
– No funding payable for the administration of paying bursaries

3rd Party Consent to Share – SFE / SFW
• SFE/SFW can discuss with the HEI a students account ONLY if we
have a consent to share.
– A consent to share can be set up by a student prior to the call by
phoning/writing to SFE/SFW.
– We will ask for HEI name, HEI-student’s password.
– The practitioner cannot change anything on the account, but can
request letters to be re-issued to the student.
– HEI advisor calls the Practitioner Helpline 0300 100 0618 with
consent password and student identification reference.
• If the student is with the HEI, and no consent to share has been set up,
we can speak to the student first, and then the HEI.
– Consent to share can be set up at this point also.
3rd Party Consent to Share – SFE / SFW
DSA Response Team
• SFE/SFW can discuss Needs Assessors, NMH Suppliers, HEI DSA
advisers, HEI practitioners about specific DSA queries.
– A consent to share should have been set up using the DSA form
prior to call.
– We will ask for HEI name and check DSA consent to share exists.
– The practitioner cannot change anything on the account.
