Uses verb ser + el date de month + year the long way (not nineteen eighty but one thousand
nine hundred and eighty)
Example: Es el ocho de junio dos mil siete
The first day of the month is el primero.
Neither months nor days of the week are capitalized.
You need to know the months of the year, the days of the week and the numbers 1-2011.
IV. Daily expressions:
¿Cómo te llamas?
Me llamo Joe.
¿Dónde vives?
Vivo en Olympia
¿De dónde eres?
Soy de Florida.
¿Cuantos años tienes?
Tengo 16 años.
¿Cómo estás?
Estoy bien/cansada/asi-asi… etc.
¿Cómo eres?
Soy alto. Tengo pelo negro.
¿Qué tiempo hace?
Hace sol. No está lloviendo.
V. Nouns/noun phrases
Nouns are masculine or feminine, singular or plural.
Articles correspond to the m/f and # of nouns – el, los, la, las.
Adjectives follow the noun and take on the m/f and # of the nouns.
To pluralize a noun add –s to words ending in a vowel, -es to those ending in a consonant.
V. Subject pronouns replace the long noun and are yo, tú, él, ella, usted, nosotros,
vosotros, ellos, ellas, ustedes. There are four ways to say “you” in Spanish. Tú is informal
singular, Usted (Ud.) is formal singular, vosotros is informal plural, Ustedes (Uds.) is formal
plural.
