EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS
The liturgy of the Cross is a triumphant liturgy. When
Moses lifted up the bronze serpent over the people, it
was a foreshadowing of the salvation through Jesus
when He was lifted up on the Cross. Our Mother Church
sings of the triumph of the Cross, the instrument of our
redemption. To follow Christ we must take up His cross,
follow Him and become obedient until death, even if it
means death on the cross. We identify with Christ on the
Cross and become co-redeemers, sharing in His cross.
We made the Sign of the Cross before prayer which
helps to fix our minds and hearts to God. After prayer we
make the Sign of the Cross to keep close to God. During
trials and temptations our strength and protection is the
Sign of the Cross. At Baptism we are sealed with the
Sign of the Cross, signifying the fullness of redemption
and that we belong to Christ. Let us look to the cross
frequently, and realize that when we make the Sign of
the Cross we give our entire self to God — mind, soul,
heart, body, will, thoughts – everything we are and will
become.

O cross, you are the glorious sign of victory.
Through your power may we share in the
triumph of Christ Jesus.

CWL News
James Doolittle is best known for his leading bombing raid on Tokyo during WW11. He was a boxing champ, pilot, aviation record setter, stunt pilot, scientist, and advisor to Presidents. His philosophy was “every person has been put on this earth to serve his fellow man.” Regardless whether it is building a bridge, painting a picture or whatever, we are leaving this earth a better place and in turn we are serving God. Give volunteering in our parish a thought. At the beginning of 2016, there will be a new executive in the CWL. At present there are 3 positions available. Consider spending a little time each month with much reward. Call Joanne 743‐6562 Help Needed for the Parish Dinner

Volunteer Screen Process
A number of years ago, our Parish implemented
a “Volunteer Screen Process” coordinated with
Peterborough Diocese and the Canadian Conference
of Bishops. This programme was to protect the
vulnerable: the sick, elderly and children. The
programme once more needs to be implemented. We
are looking for volunteers to help with this. Please

not only to raise funds but to strengthen our
Church community. Come join us and share a
memorable event with family and friends.
Volunteers are needed to clean
Assumption Church
The request for volunteers to clean the church has not been
successful. For the past couple of years it has been done by
approx. nine families taking turns, a month at a time. For
anyone thinking of volunteering, the current volunteers will
show you the ropes and I can assure you that it is not a big
job, but one that is rewarding as you will get to spend some
quiet time with the Lord. The work consists of attending the
church once a week at your convenience and dry mop the
floors and vacuum the carpets. This would normally take an
hour or so of your time and if enough people volunteered,
you would only have to do it once a year or so. Please
consider volunteering and do your part to keep God’s house
clean. If you are interested please call the church at 741-1018.
Offertory Counters
We are in need of volunteers to count the Sunday
collections. Counting may be done on the Sunday
or Monday if that works better for you. Please
contact Fr. Michael.

Not sure where you stand on abortion? Or think you know
exactly where you stand? This event is a great opportunity
to learn where Canada stands on the abortion issue, why
abortion needs to be addressed by our elected officials, and
how we can work together to ensure pre-born human rights
are discussed during the 2015 federal election. You will
listen to stories from the front lines, detailing the cultural
shift taking place as Canadians become aware of what
abortion does to the smallest members of the human family.
You will also hear about three specific laws that would
advance pre-born human rights, and that have a good
possibility of being passed in the next 3-8 years. We invite
you to learn from our qualified speakers, who will share with
you what science says about the pre-born child and whether
or not Canadian law reflects this scientific understanding. If
you already know that you want to make a difference for
pre-born children in Canada, we invite you to join us as
well! Join us in Toronto to learn more about how YOU can
make a difference this election.

2015 Year of the Family, Diocese of Peterborough
We Want to Celebrate Sunday as a Family God wanted to be born and to grow up
in a human family. In this way He
consecrated the family as the first and
ordinary means of His encounter with
humanity. In His life spent at Nazareth,
Jesus honoured the Virgin Mary and St.
Joseph, remaining under their authority.
In this way He shed light on the primary value of the
family in the education of the person. In His parents He
came to know the full beauty of faith, of love for God and
for His law, as well as the demands of justice, which is
totally fulfilled in love.
The Holy Family of Nazareth is truly the “prototype”
of every Christian family which, united in the
sacrament of marriage and nourished by the Word
and the Eucharist, is called to carry out the wonderful
vocation and mission of being the living cell not only
of society but also of the Church, a sign and
instrument of unity for the entire human race.

ThE OFFICIAL PRAYER for World Youth Day 2016
“God, merciful Father, in your Son, Jesus Christ, you have
revealed your love and poured it out upon us in the Holy
Spirit, the Comforter, We entrust to you today the destiny
of the world and of every man and woman”.1
We entrust to you in a special way
young people of every language, people and nation:
guide and protect them as they walk the complex paths of
the world today
and give them the grace to reap abundant fruits
from their experience of the Krakow World Youth Day.
Heavenly Father,
grant that we may bear witness to your mercy.
Teach us how to convey the faith to those in doubt,
hope to those who are discouraged,
love to those who feel indifferent,
forgiveness to those who have done wrong
and joy to those who are unhappy.
Allow the spark of merciful love
that you have enkindled within us
become a fire that can transform hearts
and renew the face of the earth.
Mary, Mother of Mercy, pray for us.
Saint John Paul II, pray for us.
31st WORLD YOUTH DAY 2016 in Krakow, Poland
The Official LOGO
The image is composed of a
geographical outline of Poland
in which there is a (yellow)
Cross, symbol of Christ who is
the soul of World Youth Day.
The yellow circle marks the
position of Krakow on the map of
Poland and is also a symbol of
youth. The (red and blue) flame
of Divine Mercy emerges from
the Cross, and its colours recall
the image “Jesus, I trust in you”. The colours used in the
logo - blue, red and yellow are (also) the official colours
of Krakow and its coat of arms.

Beautiful words to live by from
St. Pope John XXIII:
"Consult not your fears but your hopes and your
dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but about
your unfulfilled potential. Concern yourself not with
what you tried and failed in, but with what it is still
possible for you to do."
"Only for Today..." THE DAILY
DECALOGUE OF POPE JOHN XXIII
1) Only for today, I will seek to live the livelong day
positively without wishing to solve the problems of
my life all at once.
2) Only for today, I will take the greatest care of my
appearance: I will dress modestly; I will not raise my
voice; I will be courteous in my behaviour; I will not
criticize anyone; I will not claim to improve or to
discipline anyone except myself.
3) Only for today, I will be happy in the certainty
that I was created to be happy, not only in the other
world but also in this one.
4) Only for today, I will adapt to circumstances,
without requiring all circumstances to be adapted to
my own wishes.
5) Only for today, I will devote 10 minutes of my
time to some good reading, remembering that just as
food is necessary to the life of the body, so good
reading is necessary to the life of the soul.
6) Only for today, I will do one good deed and not
tell anyone about it.
7) Only for today, I will do at least one thing I do not
like doing; and if my feelings are hurt, I will make
sure that no one notices.
8) Only for today, I will make a plan for myself: I
may not follow it to the letter, but I will make it. And
I will be on guard against two evils: hastiness and
indecision.
9) Only for today, I will firmly believe, despite
appearances, that the good Providence of God cares
for me as no one else who exists in this world.
10) Only for today, I will have no fears.
In particular, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is
beautiful and to believe in goodness.
Indeed, for 12 hours I can certainly do what might
cause me consternation were I to believe I had to do it
all my life.

Holy Family of Nazareth
May our families never more experience
Violence, isolation, and division:
May anyone who was wounded or scandalised
Rapidly experience consolation and healing.
Holy Family of Nazareth,
May the upcoming Synod of Bishops
Re-awaken in all an awareness
Of the sacred character and inviolability of the family,
Its beauty in the project of God.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph,
Hear and answer our prayer. Amen”.

Project Rachel
Every year Canadians abort one embryonic human
being for every three live births — one quarter of all
children conceived. Many people are shocked to
discover that there are absolutely no legal restrictions
on abortion in Canada. A Canadian woman can
choose to abort at any stage of pregnancy up to
delivery and for any reason. The most appalling
consequence of abortion is the squandering of
innocent human life. But for the woman who
submits to abortion there are also nearly always
profoundly negative long-term consequences and
deep emotional scars. http://www.colf.ca
Project Rachel offers accompaniment, counselling, personal
presence and support, and other services at any time they are
needed by women or men. They also offer weekend retreats
which provide opportunity for women who have suffered from an
abortion experience to find healing, forgiveness and
reconciliation.
Are you hurting as a result of an abortion? Healing is possible.
