The Department of Human Resources at Old Dominion University (Norfolk, VA) is seeking candidates for
a Human Resource Analyst I position:
01176A Compensation Analyst: This position will perform classification and compensation analytical
work to include job analysis, position review, and recommending appropriate pay actions by applying a
wide variety of compensation factors. This position will also provide consultation to managers and
employees on classification and compensation related issues and will compile and maintain a variety of
sources for salary reference data, research customer questions, and produce reports.
Required Qualifications:
 Considerable working knowledge of human resources practices and principles.
 Working knowledge of laws and regulations governing classification and compensation such as
FLSA and EEO laws.
 Working knowledge of the Uniform Guidelines on Employee Selection Procedures.
 Working knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
 Excellent time management and organizational skills.
 Demonstrated ability to interpret and apply policies and to provide sound consultative services to
managers and employees.
 Demonstrated ability to analyze data and statistics, draw sound conclusions and develop
recommendations.
 Demonstrated ability to use Microsoft Office software products such as Word, Excel, ACCESS and
PowerPoint.
 Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
 Progressively responsible experience in job analysis and evaluation.
Preferred Qualifications:
 Considerable experience in job analysis and evaluation.
 Working knowledge of Commonwealth of Virginia policies and practices.
 Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management or related field.
 Working knowledge of state and/or University human resources information systems and
automated recruitment systems such as PMIS, Banner and PeopleAdmin.
 Human resources experience in a higher education setting.
 PHR certification.
The anticipated hiring range for this position is $32,619 to $45,000. This position opens December 14,
