Preschool Spanish
•
Numbers: learn to count 0-15
•
Colors: identify basic colors
•
Shapes: recognize basic geometric shapes (square, circle, triangle, rectangle)
•
Phrases: become familiar with simple phrases (Buenos Dias, Adios, Hola, Amigos
and Amigas)
•
Music: become familiar with several Spanish songs (Chocolate, Buenos Dias, De
Colores)
Kindergarten Spanish
•
Numbers: count and recognize numbers 0-50
•
Colors: identify basic colors
•
Shapes: recognize basic geometric shapes (square, circle, triangle, rectangle)
•
Phrases: will become familiar with simple phrases
( Buenos Dias, Buenas
Tardes, Adios, Nino, Nina, Profesora, Frio, Calor, Hola and Agua)
•
Music: become familiar with several Spanish songs (chocolate, Buenos Dias, De
Colores, Las Mananitas)
•
Health: become familiar with vocabulary for basic body parts (Cabeza, Manos,
Pies, Cara, Ojos, Dedos, Brazos, Nariz, and Boca)
•
Alphabet: read all letters in the Spanish alphabet
First Grade Spanish
•
Numbers: count and recognize numbers 0-80
•
Colors: identify basic colors and the written word for the color
•
Shapes: recognize basic geometric shapes (square, circle, triangle, rectangle)
•
Phrases: develop listening proficiency of simple phrases (Buenos Dias, Como
Esta, Adios Amigo and Hasta la Vista)
•
Music: become familiar with several Spanish songs ( Las Mananitas, Uno A Diez,
De Colores, Tengo-Tengo-Tengo and Estos Son Mis Zapatos)
•
Opposites: become familiar with the concept of opposites (left-right, up-down,
forward-backward)
•
Alphabet: read and identify all letters in the Spanish alphabet
Second Grade Spanish
•
Math: recognize and identify numbers 0-100 and become familiar with the written
number word. Students will learn terminology for addition and subtraction
problems.
•
Reading: develop reading and listening proficiency of complex phrases and
simple conversations.
•
Writing: develop the skills of writing complete sentences using the verbs “tener”
(to have), “Comer” (to eat), “ Hablar” (to speak) and “Gustar”(to like)
•
Health: identify and describe parts of the body (“yo tengo ojos azules”- I have
blue eyes)
Third Grade Spanish
•
Math: recognize and identify numbers 0-100 and become familiar with the written
number word. Students will also become familiar with terms used in counting
money, addition, subtraction and multiplication.
•
Language: develop listening, speaking, writing and reading skills in sentencesshort stories and simple plays
•
Health: will identify and describe parts of the body For example, Yo soy alto y
delgado con ojos azules (I am tall and thin with blue eyes).
Spanish Goals For Fourth and Fifth Grade
•
Math: recognize and identify numbers 0-100 and become familiar with the written
number words 0-100. Students will learn terms for addition, subtraction,
multiplication and division.
•
Language: develop listening, speaking, writing and reading skills in complex
sentences and short stories.
•
Cultural: become familiar with cultural aspects of Spanish speaking countries.
Spanish Goals For Sixth And Seventh Grade
•
Math: recognize and identify numbers 0-100 and become familiar with the written
number words 0-100 using them in word problems. Students will learn terms for
addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and the concept of telling time.
•
Language: develop listening, speaking, writing and reading skills in complex
sentences, short stories and friendship letter.
•
Cultural: become familiar with cultural aspects of Spanish speaking countries.
Spanish Program Goals for Eighth Grade
•
Language Across the Curriculum: students will learn to integrate the language
into content areas, including but not limited to, social studies, math, science,
geography, language arts, music, and art.
•
Listening Comprehension: students will practice the concept of listening to
pick out meaning and determine differences in meaning between similar
sounding words.
•
Cooperative Learning: students will put into practice the idea of working
cooperatively to perform a task or to help one another understand new
material.
•
Critical Thinking: students will develop their abilities in critical or higherorder thinking skills.
