Master of Public Administration
The Master of Public Administration (MPA) is a
professional degree for those pursuing
administrative careers in government and nonprofit organizations. The mission of the MPA
program is to promote professional excellence in
local and state administration in the public and
non-profit sector, through teaching, research, and
service.
The MPA is offered through the Department of
Political Science and Public Administration. The
program is accredited by the National Association
of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration
(NASPAA), and serves part-time, mid-career, as
well as full-time students. Through a focus on
administration and policy at the sub-national level,
the program strives to provide students, officials,
and the larger community with an improved
understanding of issues facing state and local
public and non-profit agencies. The department
also offers interdisciplinary certificate programs in
health care, municipal administration and
management of non-profit organizations. Other
areas of specialization may be developed through
the selection of elective courses in political science
and other departments.
Admission Requirements
Applicants to the MPA program must satisfy the
following requirements:



An undergraduate degree with a grade point
average (GPA) of 3.0 calculated on a 4.0 basis.
Scores from the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE). A combined score of 300 or higher for the

preferred, and the examination must have been
taken in the past two years. With permission, the

Graduate Management Aptitude Test (GMAT).

must submit at least two academic letters.
A statement of purpose
Applications are available from the U.T. College of
Graduate Studies (Telephone: 419-530-4723,
http://www.utoledo.edu/graduate/). Many factors
affect the admission decision. The most important
are the undergraduate academic record and
performance on the GRE or equivalent test. The
application process takes about one month.
Applications are considered and students admitted
throughout the year, but the committee prefers
that students begin in August.
