Q1: Can I (as a full-time National Serviceman) re-apply to change the course reserved for me earlier as
I was offered my third choice? What happens to the course reserved for me?
A: Yes. You may apply for a change of course if you have a reserved course at NUS. RNSmen may apply
for change of course during the online application window that applies to them. For eg, if you are a
Singapore-Cambridge GCE A Level graduate, you may apply when applications for Singapore-Cambridge
GCE A Level graduates open in early March every year. If you are successful in gaining admission to any
of the courses indicated in your new application, the course reserved for you previously will be
automatically withdrawn even if you ultimately decide not to accept this new course offered to you.
Hence, if you do not wish to accept the new offer, you must submit an appeal to transfer back to the
course previously reserved during the appeals period. You are, therefore, advised to accept the
new offer, while waiting for the outcome of your appeal to be re-admitted to the course previously
reserved. If you are unsuccessful in your new application, your place in the previous course will still be
reserved for you, provided you had accepted the reserved course.
Q2: I am a full-time National Serviceman who has a reserved place to study in NUS. I have now
received a scholarship to study at another University. How can I inform NUS of my intention to
relinquish my reserved place?
A: Please write to the NUS Office of Admissions at oambox6@nus.edu.sg to inform the University of
your decision to relinquish the place reserved for you. Please indicate your name and NRIC/FIN number
in your correspondence.
Q3: Are National Servicemen allowed to use the National Service Recognition Award (NSRA) for
payment of tuition fees in one of the Autonomous Universities (AUs)?
A: Yes, the National Service Recognition Award will be credited into your Post Secondary Education
Account (PSEA) which may be used towards payment of approved fees and charges for approved
programmes conducted by the following institutions:Autonomous Universities
• National University Of Singapore (NUS)
• Nanyang Technological University (NTU)
• Singapore Management University (SMU)
