Small Business Management a t F l a t h e a d Va l l e y Co m m u n i t y Co l l e g e This program is designed to give students a high level of proficiency as a small business manager or entrepreneur. The program teaches the basics of small business entrepreneurship. Upon completion, graduates will: F Read, understand, explain and use basic financial statements to make management and marketing decisions; F Use Microsoft Office, Words, and Excel as related to business applications; FUnderstand and apply basic business law applications to daily business operations, organizational issues and personnel; FExplain the advantages and disadvantages of various organizational formats available to the small business owner; F Develop basic business and marketing plans and financial projections as commonly used in business; FExplain the importance of human resource management to the overall management of an organization, including job analysis, job descriptions, job specifications, hiring, training and employee appraisal; FUnderstand agencies available to assist the small business owner such as Small Business Administration (SBA), Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) and Active Corps of Executives (ACE); and F Explain the pros and cons of various funding options available for starting or expanding a business. The Small Business Managment program is a two-year course of study leading to an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree. Opportunities After Graduation: FThis degree prepares graduates for entry-level positions in small business management and provides the basics for starting one’s own business. Graduates may gain experience managing others’ businesses and then opening their own. Self employment is the fastest growing income sector in Flathead County.
