Over 8,000 lives impacted.
Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Imagine America Foundation’s board members and staff, I want to thank you for your help with our ongoing efforts to fulfi ll the vision of our organization. Celebrating our 25th anniversary in 2007, the Imagine America
Foundation worked diligently and made a number of signifi cant contributions to higher education. In 2007, we advanced our strategic priorities, strengthened our fi nancial results, increased the value of the Imagine America ® brand, expanded our research capabilities, enhanced our ability to meet critical challenges and built a solid foundation for future growth.
Joseph Davis
President/CEO, MedTech College
Chairman of the IAF Board
We continue to be driven by our fi rm belief in the common mandate of all educators to offer and provide
America’s students with the skills and competencies to compete at home and abroad. Career colleges offer students skills that are critical to the health of the 21st century workforce. It is often said, and rightly so, that education is the key. For our students, who predominantly come from low-income homes, are women or a minority, career colleges offer them a chance at professional success. To understand the necessity and benefi ts of career colleges in our country, it is the student’s stories of achievement which fully explain the impact our schools have in equipping our nation’s workers.
As the Foundation embarks on its 26th year of service to higher education, we renew our commitment to our original mission, which has been to provide scholarship and award programs for our neediest students, conduct cutting edge research, elevate public awareness of career colleges and honor achievement in career education . In 2008 and beyond, our goal will be to continue the expansion of the work of the Foundation both in terms of its breadth and its depth.
We are especially grateful to the countless individuals, organizations and colleges who partner with us to fulfi ll this mission. It’s our supporters who make it all happen—many special people securing and nurturing the aspirations of our nation’s most valued resource. They believe, as we do, that the true measure of all our successes can only be found in the accomplishments of our students.
I hope you will take the time to explore this report to get a deeper sense of these successes and the initiatives made possible through partnerships forged with the Foundation.
With best regards,
Chairman of the Board www.imagine-america.org

T he Imagine America Foundation is pleased to re port continued success in its scholarship, training and re search activities for the 2007 year. The
Foundation currently sponsors four scholarship and award programs, including
Imag ine America (for graduating high school seniors), Imagine Amer ica Promise
(for continuing career college students), the Military Award Program (for active duty, reservist or honor ably discharged U.S. military veterans), and the Imag ine
America Online program (for online/ distance learners). To date, through the
Imagine America ® programs, the
Founda tion has secured awards and scholarships for over 35,000 students enrolling at career colleges and universities all over the United States and Puerto Rico.
In 2007, over 425 career colleges nationwide participated in the Imagine
America high school scholarship program. The Foundation processed nearly 6,000 Imagine America high school scholarships, with some colleges offer ing as many as 500 scholarships to incoming students. The 2007-2008
Military Award Program (MAP) currently has 240 participating colleges with nearly $1.5 million in MAP awards already issued. Our new Imagine
America Online program secured over
$1 million in awards for students pursuing an online education. In addition, our Imagine America Promise scholarship program, with corporate funding, has provided more than
$450,000 in cash grants, which have supported more than 500 students continuing their career education.
The Foundation also continued sponsorship of the LDRSHIP Award, which provides additional scholarship aid for military veterans, and special programs like the Gail Ben jamin Fellowship, which cultivates leadership training for the next generation’s career education leaders.
Through the increased generosity of our sponsors, in 2007, the Foundation issued twice as many scholarships to military veterans and three times as much fellowship grants to career professionals than previous years.
In realizing the vision of our previous year’s pledge to expand our capabilities, the Foundation established the 21st
Century Workforce Fund. Over $1 million has been pledged to the Fund since its creation. One of the Fund’s goals, through new research and program initiatives, will be to elevate the public’s understanding of the vital role of career colleges and their students nationwide.
In 2007, the Foundation published and distributed In Service to America – a 165 year history of the career college sector and the Economic Impact of America’s
Career Colleges – which studied the
$38.6 billion annual economic impact of career colleges. We also pub lished our popular Fact Book: A Profi le of
Career Colleges and Universities , which contained important career col lege statistics and trends about the postsecondary education sector.
The Foundation’s continued commitment to high-quality creative work, cutting edge research, a persistent focus on new technologies and intelligent investment are the strategies we believe will continue to carry us forward. None of this work would be possible without the efforts of a dedicated staff, an active, fully-engaged board of directors and hundreds of career colleges nationwide – all passionate about providing educational access for millions of career college students each year. Based on the tremendous success of our existing scholar ship programs, activities and re search publications, the Founda tion thanks its many supporters and looks forward to a spectacular year in 2008!

E very year, up to three students each from over 11,000 participating high schools in the
United States and Puerto Rico are nominated by their high school counselors to receive the Imagine
America high school scholarship. A national leader in scholarship programs available for those pursuing a career education, Imagine America has met with immense praise since it was launched in 1998.
During its fi rst year, the program received the
Award of Excellence from the American Society of
Association Executives. The following year, the same organization awarded the program with its Summit
Award, which honors organizations that “propel
America forward with innovative projects in education, skills training, standards-setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service.” Since its creation, Imagine
America
®
has secured over $35 million in tuition assistance for enrolling career college students.
The Imagine America high school scholarship program has enabled thousands of graduating high school students to afford their career education.
Graduating high school seniors who meet the program criteria are eligible to receive a $1,000 tuition discount that can be used at participating career colleges throughout the nation. Many of these students couldn’t continue their studies without this assistance.
Applicants should show:
Likelihood of successful completion of postsecondary education;
High school grade point average of 2.5 or higher;
Financial need; and
Demonstrated voluntary community service during senior year.

Imagine America
O ver fi ve years ago, the Imagine America
Foundation created the Imagine America
Promise scholarship program. This exciting program is the actualization of the Foundation’s promise to assist students who are currently attending participating Imagine America colleges by way of the
Imagine America high school scholarship and whose exceptional grades show a strong commitment to their current program of study.
The Imagine America Promise scholarship program builds upon the Foundation’s award-winning
Imagine America program, for which career colleges provide the funding. However, Imagine
America Promise scholarships are funded in another way – entirely from grants made by our sponsors. The Imagine America Promise scholarship provides $500 and $1,000 cash grants toward each student’s schooling.
Participating colleges can nominate as many eligible students as they desire. Since this program began, the Foundation has provided over $450,000 in cash grants , which have supported more than
500 continuing career college students. Prospective recipients must be nominated by a participating college and meet the following scholarship criteria:
Student must have been an Imagine America
(high school) scholarship recipient;
Student must be currently enrolled in his/her course of study;
Student’s graduation date must be after
December 31;
Student must have maintained a 3.5 or higher GPA;
Student must currently have a 95 percent or higher attendance record; and
Student must obtain a written recommendation from a faculty/administrator representative of his/ her career college.

T he Gail Benjamin Fellowship was established in honor of the late Gail Benjamin, a strong and tireless advocate in the fi eld of career education. Gail strongly believed in the necessity and responsibility of each generation to assist future generations in fulfi lling their educational and career goals. The Imagine America Foundation recognizes the need to attract and encourage women and minorities to enter and pursue senior and executive positions within the career college sector. In response to this need, the Gail Benjamin Fellowship offers grants to females and underrepresented minorities to attend the Career College Association’s (CCA) Leadership Institute.
The Leadership Institute is an annual seminar designed for directors and emerging career college directors. Attendees hear directly from leaders in the industry through a series of focused presentations and discussions on how to run a career college effectively. It is our goal that through the sharing of ideas, methods and solutions at the Leadership
Institute, Gail Benjamin fellows will be given the necessary skills and tools to emerge as career education leaders in the postsecondary sector.
The Gail Benjamin Fellowship provides up to $3,500 in grants to cover the recipients’ seminar costs.
In 2007, nine career professionals received nearly $25,000 in total grants to attend the

In Service to America:
Celebrating 165 Years of
Career and Professional

IMAGINE AMERICA FOUNDATION
ST
E ducational research has been an integral component of the Foundation’s activities since its establishment in 1982. In 2007, the Foundation created the 21st Century Workforce Fund. One of the goals of the Fund is to conduct research that elevates the public’s understanding of the vital role of career colleges and their students nationwide. In years to come, the Foundation, through fi nancial support from the 21st Century
Workforce fund, will initiate research studies focusing on the impact of career colleges, their role in meeting the nation’s current skilled-worker shortage and other broad public policy issues facing the higher education sector. Study fi ndings are fi rst made available to fund contributors.
Additionally, the 21st Century Workforce Fund is committed to fi nance and initiate awards programs that will assist in educating America’s 21st century workforce and prepare them for changes in our global and local economies. The Fund also serves as one of our sector’s most important tools in helping students obtain a competitive education for the job marketplace.
Since its creation, over $1 million has been pledged to the Fund. IAF supporters understand that the furthering of career colleges and their students begins with the contributions made today. www.imagine-america.org
