What is the BIGGEST LOSER Challenge?

The Shannon Center BIGGEST LOSER Challenge is a 10-week fitness and lifestyle program designed to help participants:

1. Lose weight

2. Make healthy lifestyle changes

3. Have fun & get fit

4. Maintain weight loss

Participants will do an initial weigh-in at the Shannon Center at the beginning of the

BIGGEST LOSER challenge followed by weekly weigh-ins that are done at home and will be recorded online. The final weigh-in will take place at the Shannon Center and will also be recorded online. Additional information will also be provided to participants on the

Shannon Center’s BIGGEST LOSER Website.

Pre-Requisites for Participation

The BIGGEST LOSER is intended for Saint Xavier University students, faculty, staff, and Shannon Center members. Friends and family members will also be able to join the challenge as well this year!

Participants should commit to exercise 3 – 5 times per week.

Who will be the BIGGEST LOSER?

The BIGGEST LOSER will be determined by the greatest percentage of body weight lost at the end of the 10 week challenge.

The top 3 participants with the greatest percentage of body weight loss will be named the BIGGEST LOSER. Each of the top 3 participants will receive a Cash Prize and a gift card to the Shannon Center Subway .

How much weight can I expect to lose?

Weight loss relies on healthy eating and exercising. Participants will be given the guidance and support needed to make the lifestyle changes required for weight loss; however, YOU must make the commitment to become healthier. You can expect to lose a healthy 1 – 2 lbs. per week.

Rules

Weight loss will be tracked on the BIGGEST LOSER website at www.sxu.edu

Keyword: Biggest Loser.

All participants must log in their starting weight online by Friday, February 1 st .

Participants must do the initial and final weigh-in at the Shannon Center.

All other weigh-ins will be done on your own.

Participants will be asked to take a photo at the initial and final weigh-ins.

It is required that weigh-ins are done on the same scale and at the same time of the day every week.

Participants must enter their weekly weight online on Fridays by 10pm.

(Only you will be able to see your own weight. It will not be shown on the website.)

Participants will receive a pedometer. Participants have the option to track their daily and weekly steps online in order to stay on track with their weight loss.

Please note that this is only an option and benefit to the participants. Participants

DO NOT need to track steps in order to win the Biggest Loser.

Participants who enter their weekly weight will be entered into a raffle drawing to win weekly prizes.

The website will calculate the total amount of weight lost as well as the percentage of body weight lost. Only the percentage amount will be shown as this will be the number that determines the winners.

All participants will keep track of their daily exercise and food intake in the food journal provided to them in order to be successful with this program.

Information will be available on the website for all participants including: program rules, weekly exercise log sheets, a weekly food journal, suggested workouts, a BMI chart, and other useful healthy information. There will also be links for healthy websites such as The Biggest Loser, Fitness magazine, Nutrition data, and more.

Participants are not allowed to take any dietary supplements for the duration of the

10 week fitness challenge. This is a natural weight-loss challenge.

Pre-Contest Assessments:

Assessments will be available in the Shannon Center during the following times: o Monday, January 28 th – Friday, February 1 st

6:30am – 8:00pm
