PURPOSE OF COURSE:
This course provides fundamental knowledge on logistics system that consists of material management
system, material flow system and physical distribution system. Emphasis is give on the facility planning
aspect of logistics system. Topics included are Systematic Layout Planning (SLP), Computer Aided Layout
Planning, Material Handling Systems including AGVS and Conveyor, Design and Operation of Automated
Warehouse System, Analytic Approaches to Location Problems and Tour Development.

The midterm and final exam each count 35 %, the project presentation and homework count 30%.

PROJECT INFORMATION
Possible projects include the following:
1. Read, evaluate, and report on two research papers on logistics management.
2. Study a real location or layout problem and try to improve upon the current situation
using tools introduced in the course.
3. You are free to suggest to the instructor a project that interests you
