“Vision for the Future”
Norman Regional Health System continues to advance and expand
the healthcare we provide to our community. Our mission is to
ensure every citizen in our service area has convenient, easy access
to healthcare that is delivered by state-of-the-art equipment and
compassionate individuals.
In 2004, Norman Regional Health System developed a 25-year master facility plan
which included the construction of a new medical complex located at Interstate 35
and Tecumseh Road. What was once an expanse of field and a blueprint is now taking
shape with brick, glass and steel as the HealthPlex hospital nears its completion. Set
to open in summer of 2009, the HealthPlex hospital will add 135 beds to the region.
It will house a three-story Women and Children’s Pavilion, and a five story tower
for Cardiology, Orthopedics and Neurosurgery. The hospital will also contain eight

Moore Medical Center
Moore Medical Center joined the Norman Regional Health System family
in 2007, and has since become a key component to our success and a vital
healthcare provider for its community.
The Moore community relies on Moore Medical Center for general medical and surgical needs,
occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, cardiopulmonary services, obstetrical
services, 24-hour emergency services and close-to-home diagnostic imaging. Moore Medical
Center has attracted experts to the area and added 10 new physicians since joining NRHS.
Ryan Gehrig, FACHE, and chief administrative officer at
Moore Medical Center was promoted to vice president
of enterprise systems within the Health System. While
Ryan has assumed additional system responsibilities,
his goal for Moore Medical Center remains the same,
which is to provide the Moore and southwest Oklahoma
City region with the best possible patient care services,
close to home.
Committed to its community, Moore Medical Center
is also finding ways to reach out and give back. During
the city’s annual Bike to Work Day, Moore Medical
Center was a destination point and served up a healthy
breakfast to participants. Moore Medical Center is
involved in community events including the support
of the Moore Chamber of Commerce, American Red
Cross, Moore Public Schools Foundation, and the
new Southmoore High School’s team sports program.
Moore Medical Center sponsored its first free
Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic in November.
The hospital also completed its first beautification project. Volunteers, hospital management and staff planted assorted
flowers and spread 320 bags of red mulch to make Moore Medical Center an attractive member of the community.
Project Quest
As Norman Regional Health System continues to grow and
expand, we have remained proactive and ahead of the curve with
the implementation of Project Quest. The goal of this project is
to provide more convenient, quality care to our patients through
upgrading to a system-wide integrated computer network.
This new network, called Meditech, allows hospital physicians and clinical staff
faster, consistent access to patients’ information as it relates to their care. The new
system went live in February of 2008. NRHS implemented Meditech’s full suite
of applications, including all clinical and financial software, scheduling, registration,
laboratory, radiology, and several other applications. NRHS is the only health
system in the nation currently using every application that Meditech offers at this
release level.
Meditech aids clinicians in their day to day operations
by letting them document patient’s care in a centralized
electronic medical record. Physicians and health care
providers have secured access to a patient’s medical history,
test results, vital statistics, medications and allergies.
Project Quest also helped Norman Regional Health System
to go “wireless.” The hospital side of the wireless system is
restricted and private, but patients and visitors are able to
use their wireless devices and computers while on campus.
Complimentary wireless internet is available at the Porter
Avenue Campus, Moore Medical Center, HealthPlex and
the Hospitality House for our overnight guests.
“
We have excellent physicians,
nurses, pharmacists, therapists
and health care providers in this
institution. Now we’ve added
an electronic record built to our
specifications that match this
degree of excellence.

Community Service and Outreach —
“Reaching Out, Giving Back”
Norman Regional is dedicated to reaching out and giving back to the community we
serve. We’re committed to this concept; community outreach is a key component
of our organization’s master plan. We strive to identify health and social needs in
our community. In 2008, Norman Regional provided a total contribution of more
than $2.7 million to the community. Our staff also volunteered their time, serving
more than 496,500 people.
A few of our programs include:
Norman Public School Health Service Program
Norman Public Schools entered into a groundbreaking collaboration with Norman Regional Health
System to financially support the establishment of School Health Services for the district. Previously,
the district only had two school nurses and two part time health assistants to serve 13,720 students.
This program has made it possible for the school district to provide health services at each school site.
Norman Regional and the school district agreed to share the costs of establishing the Health Services
Program, with Norman Regional supplying the majority of the funds for the first year.
Students now have access to five school nurses, five licensed practical nurses and fifteen trained health
assistants. In one year, there were more than 48,500 student visits which ranged from dispensing
medicine to blood sugar checks to first aid. The program’s uniqueness has caught the attention of others
as well, winning several awards including the Barbara Lynch Community Partner Award from Oklahoma
State School Boards Association, the Pinnacle Award from the Association of School Business Officials
and being named Blue Cross Blue Shield of Oklahoma’s Champion of Children’s Health.
Drive-Thru Flu Shot Clinic
Every November, Norman Regional Health System and Norman Regional Health
Foundation offers free flu vaccines for community members, 18 years and older.
This unique program provides people a quick and convenient way to get their
annual flu shot. Last year about 1,100 vaccines are administered.
Fit Families
An extension of Healthy Youth, Fit Families is an award-winning program that teaches families how
to live healthier lives by educating them about proper dietary habits, ideal levels of physical activity,
coping with stress and building self esteem.
Fit Families is based on the concept that involving the entire family creates a supportive environment
and encourages all members of the family to become more active and make positive lifestyle changes.
Children at risk for being overweight or obese are identified through BMI results obtained at the
Healthy Youth screenings. Physicians may also refer families to the program.
Fit Families is so successful it grew to include SNAP
Camp, a summer refresher course for Fit Families
participants. The camp invited 18 children this year to
participate in exercise, do arts and crafts, and learn to
make healthy meals and snacks.
HealthPlex Run
More than 200 runners participated in the second
annual HealthPlex Run. The 5K run and one mile walk
took place in front of the construction site of the new
HealthPlex hospital. Both the female and male winners
set course records!
Healthy Youth
Healthy Youth is a health screening program for regional elementary school children in public
and private schools. In the 2007 — 2008, school year Norman Regional staff and volunteers
screened more than 11,000 children to identify potential health problems.

2,149 hours to 77 social and service organizations. They’ve also dedicated 1,568 hours to
community and business organizations and more than 1,130 hours to professional and business
associations. From ringing bells for the Salvation Army to raising money for the March of Dimes
to lending their expertise as a community board member, our management team is dedicated

back, in hard hats this time, checking on their “investment,” as the new
hospital construction progresses.
