Denese Deeds, CIH
Denese Deeds is the Director of Chemical Regulatory Services at Industrial Health &
Safety Consultants where she prepares MSDS and other hazard communication
documents, files international chemical registrations and assists companies with overall
chemical regulatory compliance. She has 40 years in the field and is certified in the
Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene. Prior to co-founding IH&SC she worked
as an industrial hygienist for General Electric and Westinghouse. Denese has served on
various committees and local sections of the AIHA® and is active in the Society for
Chemical Hazard Communication, where she is a past-President and current Outreach
Committee Co-Chair. Denese is a frequent presenter at SCHC and AIHA® local section
meetings on the topic of the GHS and is an active participant in the OSHA-SCHC
Alliance where a main goal is GHS awareness.
Douglas Eisner
Mr Eisner received his BS degree and MS degree in organic chemistry from San Jose
State University and has over 40 years experience in the chemical process industries,
including chemical distribution, chemical manufacturing, water treatment, and
consulting. Mr Eisner recently retired from Siemens Water Technologies Corp where he
served as Regional Manager, Environmental, Health and Safety. During his career, he
has developed corporate-wide systems for Safety Data Sheet and precautionary label
authoring and management and has authored numerous Safety Data Sheets and
precautionary labels according to OSHA, WHMIS, and EU requirements.
Mr Eisner has been an active member of the Society for Chemical Hazard
Communication since 1983, has served as the Society’s Arrangements Chairman since
1985, and was a member of its Board of Directors for 4 years. Additionally, he was a
member of the ANSI Safety Data Sheet and Precautionary Labeling Task Groups and is
currently a faculty member of the University of Phoenix where he teaches courses in
environmental science and mathematics.
Ann Johnson, MS
Ann Johnson is a Senior Technical Supervisor in the Medical Department at 3M
Company in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her primary responsibilities include serving as the
Regional Coordinator for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, with oversight for the
Regional Coordination function globally, and supervision of hazard communication and
regulatory personnel. Ms. Johnson’s expertise is in European product EHS regulations
and is part of the teams working on the implementation of GHS and REACH within
3M. In the past, Ms. Johnson supported several 3M businesses by authoring hazard
communication documents and providing regulatory and toxicology support, including
human health hazard and risk assessments. She earned a master’s degree in
environmental health, with an emphasis in toxicology, from the University of Minnesota
and a B.S. in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin –
Madison. Ms. Johnson is a member of the Society for Toxicology and the Northland
Chapter of the Society of Toxicology (NLSOT).
Robert Roy, PhD, DABT
Dr. Roy holds both an MS and PhD in environmental health (toxicology) from the
University of Minnesota. He is board-certified in toxicology. He is currently a Lead
Toxicology Specialist in the Toxicology Assessment and Compliance Assurance section
of the 3M Medical Department. He currently provides toxicology support to the 3M
Consumer Health Care Division and Skin and Wound Care Division, is Chair of the 3M
Exposure Guideline (OEL) Committee and leads 3M’s efforts in the development of
DN(M)ELs for REACH registrations. Dr. Roy is an Adjunct Assistant Professor
(Environmental Health Sciences and Toxicology Graduate Program) at the University of
Minnesota, has been a member of the WEEL® Committee for over 15 years, and is a pastpresident of the Northland Chapter of the Society of Toxicology.
Robert Skoglund, PhD, CIH, DABT
Dr. Skoglund has a doctorate and master’s degree in environmental health (toxicology
and environmental chemistry) from the University of Minnesota and over 20 years of
experience in regulatory and applied toxicology. He is presently a Senior Laboratory
Manager within the Corporate Medical Department of the 3M Company in St. Paul,
Minnesota, and is responsible for the science-based assessment and communication of the
hazards and risks of materials important to 3M. This includes a global hazard
communication program and other regulatory and applied toxicology issues/tasks that
impact product responsibility/stewardship. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the
University of Minnesota where he teaches and advises students in both the Toxicology
Graduate Program and the School of Public Health's Division of Environmental Health
Sciences. Dr. Skoglund is board certified in toxicology and industrial hygiene and has
been lecturing on regulatory and applied toxicology for over 15 years, and he has
authored a number of peer-reviewed publications on these topics including journal
articles, book chapters, and scientific abstracts. Dr. Skoglund is active in a number of
professional societies and trade organizations including the Consumer Specialty Products
Association (CSPA), American Chemistry Council (ACC), Society of Toxicology (SOT)
and Society for Chemical Hazard Communication (SCHC), and has served as a
representative for U.S. industry in the development of GHS and REACH.
Scott Strand
Scott Strand is a Certified Hazard Communication Professional with over 20 years
experience in environmental science consulting, personnel management, global
regulatory compliance, and training. His skills include environmental hazard, risk, and
life cycle assessment; GHS and REACH compliance; Hazardous Waste Management,
Business Process analysis, development, and implementation; Project management; Site
assessment; Hazard Communication; Emergency Response; and the review and
application of many different global regulations.
