DEPARTMENT OF MANAGEMENT SERVICES For Reference Only CLASS CODE: 5050 PAY GRADE: 021 CLASS TITLE: TOXICOLOGIST I ALLOCATION FACTOR(S) This is toxicological laboratory work in the analysis of animal blood and other animal-related materials. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED: (Note: The examples of work as listed in this class specification are not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. Examples of work performed are not to be used for allocation purposes.) Conducts chemical examinations of blood, tissue and body organs to detect the presence and nature of toxic substances. Prepares reagents for other departments. Makes minor repairs on laboratory equipment. Isolates, analyzes and identifies toxic materials, viruses and other chemicals in blood samples. Adds reagents to samples; heats, filters, and shakes solutions according to procedure; and notes appearance, change of color, or precipitate. Compiles reports of test findings. Performs related work as required. Knowledge of the terminology, principles and techniques used in the field of toxicology. Knowledge of the procedures, techniques and equipment used in laboratory testing and analysis. Ability to collect, record and analyze scientific data relating to the field of toxicology. 5050-TOXICOLOGIST I-CS Ability to isolate, identify and analyze toxic materials, viruses and other chemicals in blood samples. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences and three years of professional experience in the field of toxicology; or A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences and two years of professional experience as described above; or A doctorate from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the physical or natural sciences.
